The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and increase grid reliability in places where it is lacking. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough powertrain technology and manufacturing scale to develop and deploy grid connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility scales.

The Role
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to develop manufacturing processes and advanced manufacturing equipment for our cutting edge Energy Products. Battery development is at the heart of our company and this is an exciting opportunity work directly the central challenge with energy storage – battery cost. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects. In addition to developing manufacturing equipment and processes, Manufacturing Engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will work closely with Produce Design Engineering, Product Development, New Product Introduction team, Process Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Production Operations team to take Battery design changes and new Battery designs from initial concept through prototype development and into high volume production.The opportunity is based at Tesla’s Headquarter Palo Alto Deer Creek Office.
Responsibilities:
· Develop new manufacturing processes and equipment.
· Develop equipment specifications for custom automation equipment.
· Drive design for manufacturability and design for automation with product design engineering team.
· Manage external equipment integrators from equipment development through buyoff.
· Collaborate with small teams on in-house development of novel and complex automation equipment.
· Closely collaborate with external equipment integrators on custom automation equipment design.
· Validate and characterize new equipment and fixtures for production implementation.
· Design and optimize production line layout.
· Create detailed Manufacturing Instructions and Operation Sequence to document new processes.
· Design production workstations, equipment, and fixtures for ergonomics and efficiency.
Desired profile
Requirements:
· 3+ years of manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering experience.
· BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
· Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
· Experience transitioning products from prototype phase to high volume production.
· Experience developing manufacturing processes for new and unique products.
· Experience designing and validating mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is also a plus).
· Experience developing automated manufacturing equipment.
· Multiple new equipment installations experience and new product launch experience.
· Experience introducing new equipment and new processes into a production environment (APQP is a plus).
· Extensive project management experience.
· Experience with control language (PLC, MySQL) is a plus.
