The Role:

The Legal Counsel, Employment will support the Associate General Counsel responsible for leading Tesla Legal Team’s labor and employment matters globally. This is a great opportunity to support and enable the transformation of Tesla’s HR team into an indispensable strategic business partner. Responsibilities:

As a member of Tesla’s fun and fast-paced Legal Department, the employment counsel will serve as the primary employment attorney for the Sales, Service & Delivery organizations. Key to this role will be to get out ahead of any potential issues, assess and manage employment law risk, and offer practical, creative solutions to your business partners. Specific responsibilities will include:

·  Preparing employment contracts for Tesla’s newest international markets; work with internal teams (e.g., recruiting, payroll, and benefits) to operationalize those agreements.
·  Handling and responding to 3rd party subpoenas for employee records.
·  Drafting responses to the EEOC, NLRB, and other government agencies arising in the Sales, Service and Delivery organization.
·  Provide day to day advice on a broad range of employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, HR practices, performance management, terminations, and labor relations.
·  Help build and implement scalable, world-class employment policies and programs that balance legal risk with business impact.
·  Embed with the company’s HR teams to handle and support compliance, employee issues, internal investigations, audits, pre-dispute conflicts, employment law claims, arbitrations and labor matters.
·  Manage all aspects of litigation and discovery, including e-discovery, and coordination with company witnesses and record custodians.
·  Lead and collaborate with cross-functional partners on complex projects to sustain and enhance employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
·  Work closely with outside counsel to manage risk and ensure that internal partners receive effective, business-focused employment law support.
·  Support the company’s commitment to a discrimination and harassment free workplace by assisting on employment compliance projects as needed and providing training to managers and employees.

Desired profile

Requirements:

·  At least 3 to 8 years of employment and labor law experience at a highly respected law firm and/or in-house corporate environment.
·  J.D. required; admission to the California Bar preferred or evidence of extraordinary ability
·  Experienced in employment and labor disputes.
·  Client counseling experience required, and employment litigation experience preferred.
