The Role

Tesla’s Power Electronics group is looking for a skilled and motivated engineer to provide regulatory compliance (safety, EMC, and protocol) support developing charging equipment that will operate throughout the world. This role involves working with designers during all stages of product life cycle to ensure relevant standards are met, performing and supervising compliance tests, and managing certification activities. The role also involves representing Tesla in various associations and on committees maintaining and developing international charging standards.

Responsibilities

·  Review product designs to prevent and resolve non-compliances and incompatibilities
·  Plan, coordinate, execute and in some cases supervise in-house and 3 rd party compliance testing
·  Manage in-house and 3 rd party compliance certification
·  Monitor relevant standards defining charging systems around the world and maintain knowledge of their operation
·  Influence the development of international charging standards by providing technical input at meetings and joining associations, committees, and working groups

Required Skills

·  BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant technical degree
·  Knowledge of EVSE safety standards and codes (UL 2202, UL 2231, IEC 61851, NFPA 70, etc.)
·  Knowledge of EMC standards (IEC 61000 series, FCC, etc.)
·  Knowledge of charge protocol standards (SAE, CCS, CHAdeMO, GB, etc.)
·  Previous experience with certification bodies (UL, TUV, etc.)
·  Proficiency with basic laboratory tools (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators etc.).
·  Willingness to travel

Preferred Skills

·  MSEE in Electrical Engineering or other relevant technical degree
·  Previous hands-on hardware design experience (analog and digital design, digital communications, EV charging systems, HV systems, power conversion)
·  Familiarity with state of global EV charging infrastructure (major manufacturers, installed quantities and locations, compliant vehicles, etc.)
·  Experience working with common charging systems communication protocols (CAN, PLC)
·  Proficiency with CAN communication and analysis tools (Vector, P-CAN, etc.)
·  Fluent in native languages of various charging standards (Chinese, Japanese)
