The Role
The Global Immigration leader is responsible for delivering an elegant work authorization experience to current and potential employees. They will also be responsible for partnering with the business, HR, Recruiting, Legal and Relocation to design and execute programs to support new market expansion, internal mobility, employee education, and providing advice on risk mitigation. This includes temporary and permanent US and International, Inbound and Outbound employee moves, supporting M&A and new market entry. As we continue to scale at pace, there is an opportunty to reimagine and optimize the way the work gets done in the most effective, efficient and compliant manner. The role reports to the VP, Global Recruiting and partners very closely with our legal, global relocation, policy and tax teams.
Responsibilities
· Review current immigration processes and practices and rearchitect for global scale
· Partner with business leaders to understand expansion goals and the impact on employee mobility and hiring. Build a strategy to ensure the business is able to meet its commercial goals in an efficient and compliant manner
· Partner with the Legal Immigration Compliance team on program design, compliance audits, and third party vendor selection
· Oversee all aspects of US and International immigration operations. This includes internally managed processes as well as any relevant outsourced activities
· Partner with global relocation and recruiting, and other cross functional groups as appropriate, to ensure a high quality candidate experience for those requiring immigration support
· For current employees, partner with HR, the business, relocation, corporate travel and tax to design high quality compliant experiences
· Develop robust processes to ensure all moves, immigration and business travel is tracked and repoted scalably and efficiently. Work with HR Operations to drive automation
· Work with HR Operations and Analytics group to build transparent dashboards/reporting for our foreign worker population – including business travel, short and long term assignments
· Collaborate with Legal partners to scenario plan and prepare for planned or anticipated regulatory changes globally
· In partnership with the public policy team, advocate for Tesla’s requirements in convesations with immigration authorities
· Manage a team of immigration paralegals to ensure efficient workflow and positive candidate/employee experience
Desired profile
Requirements
· Bachelors Degree or equivalent in relevant business experience
· 10+ years immigration experience in a commercial or mixed legal practice/commercial environment
· 3+ years managing and leading a high performing global team
· 3+ years leading global immigration processes, with deep experience in US Inbound/Outbound as well as at least one other global region (APAC and/or EMEA)
· Demonstrated experience building or re-designing global scale immigration processes in a high growth environment with minimum 10k+ employees
· Proven understanding and practical experience managing immigration compliance and employee status tracking
· Evidence of exceptional ability
