Overview

The Field Applications Roofing & Construction Specialist will have a high level of expertise, understanding and experience in most if not all roofing types, systems, flashings, waterproofing methods, best practices and codes. In the absence of good existing standards he or she will be able to provide direction with regards to best practices and water-proofing methodology, from underlayment to tiles to flashings. In addition the candidate should have extensive general residential construction expertise & knowledge, which he or she will use to collaborate in an innovative team environment in order to promote and advise on best practices as they relate to application of PV mounting solutions. The successful candidate will be able to work within the dynamic team environments of Product Development, Field Applications, Technical Operations, and Manufacturing Engineers, as well as Operations, Training, Technical Publications, Supply Chain, Safety, Design & Sales to help solve challenging and complex problem sets and make recommendations with innovative solutions. They will also be the driver of innovations through creative cost competitive solutions that maintain compliance with roofing industry accepted methods and best practices.

In addition, they will coordinate & collaborate with all of Field Applications Engineering to prioritize, set-up, perform tests and provide reports for real-world, installation-oriented testing. They will have the opportunity to bring new field based product ideas and opportunities to Tesla’s product development team for consideration.

Responsibilities

·  Act as subject matter expert with regards to all things roofing and water-proofing
·  Comprehensive roofing best practices and code understanding
·  Lead team construction builds
·  Proof of concept and product evaluation
·  Evaluate prototypes for fit, form, function and real-world applications
·  Identify issues with regards to installation, safety, building standards, implementation and come up with innovative solutions
·  Coordinate with the Manager of Field Applications Engineering and other teams to design, prioritize, set-up, perform tests and provide reports for all applications testing needs and scenarios
·  Address immediate technical and practical field/industry issues
·  Communicate major product changes, technical solutions, and quality assurance concerns to team
·  Identify product or training issues and provide feedback to team and appropriate internal departments
·  Hands-on full scale system builds
·  Knowledge transfer and training for other departments and teams
·  Assist with documentation and technical content including Work Instructions, manuals, component level instructions and beta and pilot installations
·  Collaborate with other departments to refine designs and solve issues

Desired profile

Requirements

·  4+ Years (Bags-on Foreman) general residential construction with a HEAVY focus on roofing systems, flashings, water-proofing, underlayment, best roofing practices, codes, etc.
·  Critical thinking driven by 1 st principal design logic
·  Fundamental understanding of general building construction, roofing systems and flashings
·  Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
·  Great organization skills
·  Good computer skills; Outlook, Word, Excel Power Point
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
·  Excellent customer service skills required
·  Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen
·  Travel ready

Pluses

·  General electrical experience
·  General PV Installation, residential retrofit experience
·  NABCEP Certification
·  General roofing experience residential focused, but versed in all types; pitched, flat single ply, membrane, standing seem, etc.
·  1+ years working in a technical customer support role including classroom and on-the-job trainings
·  Experience working with licensed contractors including electricians
·  Familiarity with applicable industry codes; electrical, roofing, construction, etc.
