The Role
Tesla’s Power Electronics group is looking for a skilled and motivated electrical engineer to design and develop control electronics for energy conversion products intended to be used in Tesla vehicles and energy storage and generation equipment .
Responsibilities
· Design and development of digital electronics and communication busses for power electronics systems.
· Design and development of analog electronics and signal conditioning for power electronics systems.
· Design and development of power electronics circuits such as flybacks, buck converters, boost converters, etc. for on board power supplies.
· Printed circuit board layout and routing of electronics providing maximum circuit density, minimizing electromagnetic emissions, and maximizing immunity.
· Collaborative work with mechanical, digital control, thermal design, manufacturing test, and DVT engineers.
· Start to finish ownership of control board electronics – from specification to design, prototype, and manufacturing.
Required Skills
· BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE preferred.)
· Relevant coursework or work experience.
· Experience in selection and use of DSPs, microcontrollers, and programmable logic devices and their peripheral circuitry (signal conditioning, board-level power supplies.)
· Experience in development of digital and analog interfaces for PC-based test systems, especially (Labview, Matlab, Python).
· Medium to high volume DFT and DFM.
· Experience in supervision of PCB layout, plane definition, and EMC optimization.
· Proficiency with basic EE tools (scopes, network analyzers, etc.)
· Embedded programming of DSPs and FPGAs in real-time control applications.
Preferred Skills
· Knowledge in basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, design of compensation networks.
· Knowledge in automotive environmental, reliability, and safety requirements.
· Knowledge in automotive networking (e.g. CAN, LIN) standards.
· Knowledge in power semiconductors and switched mode power conversion.
