Job description

The Role
Tesla is seeking a Climate Control Calibration Engineer whose primary focus is ensuring that Tesla’s climate control algorithms and calibration deliver a consistently awesome user experience across all seasons and vehicle variants.

This will consist of reviewing code changes and significant in-vehicle testing in a variety of environments and conditions. The engineer will work closely with climate control firmware, controls, and hardware organizations. They will use first principles physics understanding of climate control hardware, the vehicle cabin environment, and external conditions to provide feedback on climate control performance and recommendations for improvement. Root-cause investigations of customer feedback will be a regular task. The engineer will also be responsible for leading controls calibration efforts of new vehicle programs, variants, or new features. Regular travel will be an essential part of this role.

Responsibilities
• Validate that new software features don’t cause regressions in customer experience of the climate control system
• Monitor, investigate, and close the loop on customer feedback of climate control performance
• Develop and execute an “on-going testing” plan to ensures stability of the customer experience of climate control systems across changing seasons and vehicle platforms/variants
• Work with algorithms/firmware engineers to drive improvements to climate control algorithms as required
• Lead the climate control calibration effort for new vehicle programs
• Scope, coordinate, and lead regular test-trips to develop, verify, and sign-off on climate control algorithms, calibration, and hardware updates
• Provide input to HVAC hardware engineering teams on potential updates to improve customer experience

Requirements
• BS degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or related fields
• Strong grasp on heat-transfer fundamentals
• Willingness to travel ~30% of the time every quarter for vehicle-testing in a range of environmental conditions. May vary based on immediate program needs so some degree of flexibility is required
• Basic experience/comfort working with C-code

Make every future a success.
