About The Job

The Supply Chain Team is a global operation responsible for getting hundreds of millions of products from farms and factories to our millions of customers each and every day. We frequently reinvent our supply chain to respond to our customers and how they want to shop. In the 60s we were the first to design We've built our reputation on frequently reinventing our supply chain to respond to how our customers want to shop. In the 60s we were the first to design a supply chain to serve out of town supermarkets. In the 90s we supported the first 24 hour stores for the first time. And in 2000 we led the way in introducing online grocery shopping.

The demands on Tesco's supply chain have never been greater. Our customers want more flexibility in the way that they shop and demand an ever growing range of products.

Main Responsibilities

The Supply Chain team is based in our Cheshunt and Welwyn Garden City head offices. We're made up of 3 divisions:

Supply Chain Operations,

Internal Consulting & Inbound Logistics &

Wholesale Operations.

Each division contains several specialist teams.

Supply Chain Operations

In our UK Operations team, you can make an immediate impact by partnering with:

Growers and manufacturers to build end to end plans to deliver freshness, optimum stockholding and great availability in the most efficient way

Internal functions to shape & deliver the business plans of the Customer & Buying teams using relevant data, collaborative forecasts & ordering to provide the right stock levels

Store colleagues where we support the Tesco retail operation teams in delivering great availability both in the traditional shopping trip in store, but also for our online customers

Transformation & Internal Consulting

Insight & Strategy: we use relevant data to develop strategic insight & to monitor how Tesco is performing. The information we provide informs the discussions and decisions made by the Tesco Leadership every day.

Supplier Collaboration: we build long term relationships with our suppliers by better aligning and integrating our supply chains.

Streamlining Operational Processes: we optimize the flow of stock through our supply chain.

Customer Forecasts & Ordering: we support our stores by using relevant data to predict how much of each product our customers are going to want in each store. Accurate forecasts enable us to order the minimum amount of stock required to satisfy the demands of our customers. We are continually developing our ordering systems to minimise waste whilst maximising on-shelf availability.

Inbound Logistics & Wholesale Operations

Inbound Operations: Managing the international logistics operation across our Non-Food and Food divisions. Working closely with the world's largest shipping lines, freight forwarders and road and rail transport providers.

Wholesale Operations: Managing the growing wholesale export operation which supplies Tesco product to our International businesses and wholesale customers who operate in all four corners of the globe.

Logistics Development: Working on both tactical and strategic change projects which help shape our inbound and outbound operations to best cater for the changing needs of our customers.

Logistics Procurement: Managing the procurement of all services required to run our global logistics operation covering large and small scale tender processes and strengthening our understanding of global trade and how this enhances our ability to procure the best services to run a world class international logistics operation.

After your induction, you'll get hands-on experience in our stores and distribution centres and be trained in our systems and processes.

You'll then begin a structured programme that delivers real value for our customers and is designed to give you insight into many areas.

The key deliverables we look after are:

Owning strategic relationships with logistics suppliers

Ensuring the right networks are in place to deliver great availability

Negotiating millions of pounds worth of logistics services

Operational management of 120,000 container movements and 6million KGs of airfreight per year.

Driving efficiencies in how we move goods through optimising

On track for a 2:1 in any subject (with a preference for mathematics, science or engineering degrees)
