About The Job
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Product Developer to join the Food Team in Product Quality. Reporting to the Product Development Manager, in this role you will own and deliver your category Product Development proposition, to step change the quality of the products that matter most to our customers and to deliver market leading innovation.
As well as the day to day role, you will have the opportunity to work on projects that impact the wider business; working with commercial, technical, legal & marketing functions in order to deliver these.
Main Responsibilities
Product Development & Innovation strategy within your category
· Be the trend, customer and market expert within your category.
· Develop market leading innovation and product ranges which drive positive customer quality perception, maximise customer participation, sales, outperformance & margin delivery for the category.
· Work closely with the customer team to gain strategic customer insight.
· Drive a culture of innovation & passion for product within your team and the supply base.
· Define the product brief to deliver range, quality and packaging/design improvements for your category which reflect the pillar brand values.
· Own the critical path and ensure that all products are launched on time and to the brief.
· Continually review the product area to identify opportunities for improving product quality and delivering value for money.
· Manage the supplier skill set effectively to deliver a 1-5 year development plan for the area.
· Regularly visit stores to review the performance of your products as customers experience them.
Category Communication an advocate for the Tesco brand
· Share expertise with internal stakeholders Stores, Marketing, PR, Awards, and Tesco Magazine.
· Be the recognised Tesco expert in your category with external stakeholders Press, Shareholder events.
Identify new business & market opportunities
· Keep abreast of trends and market dynamics and share this knowledge with the team.
· Keep abreast of competitor activity within the industry and conduct regular competitor and directional reviews.
