The Insight team uses data analysis and market research to help the business understand its customers, and identify opportunities to improve trading performance. We are looking for an analyst who can support trade analysis by producing informative and engaging reports to report on sales and margin - understanding the current situation, quantifying the degree of change and forecasting future impact. You will assist on analytical projects, focusing on events and promotions performance for example, to make recommendations which will affect business decisions. This will necessitate an understanding of the relevant data sources, ensuring that these are accurate, consistent and available on time.
The successful candidate will be a logical and meticulous thinker with strong attention to detail and a passion for analysis, who is able to communicate clearly and work with others to deliver results.
Main Responsibilities
· Performing weekly analysis of event and promotional performance (sales value, volume, contribution, margin and density) ensuring data is accurate and timely
· Reviewing and interpreting results to make meaningful suggestions, undertaking or supporting ad hoc projects as required to provide greater understanding of specific issues
· Turn analysis into insight that drives action across the business
· Proposing and creating space cascades, based on seasonal calendar, customer trends and analysis
· Work closely with Analysts, commercial Buying and Merchandising teams, Event Managers, Supply Chain and Retail Operation
· Design visually engaging reports to highlight business trends and automate regular data processing jobs
· Manage the extraction, transformation and loading of large datasets from multiple sources
· Drive change by continuously measuring the factors influencing Tesco events and promotions and customer behaviour (whether they are trading, operational or competitor initiated)

Essential Requirements:
· Strong numerical & analytical skills, with a natural ability to communicate analytical findings in a simple way
· Experience of working with data, preferably using SQL
· Understanding of techniques for automated data processing
· Good written and spoken communication skills
· Ability to manage own workload to tight deadlines & to work on a variety of projects simultaneously
· Strong attention to detail and critical thinking
· A passion for learning
Desirable Requirements
· Degree in a quantitative or retail subject
· Prior work experience in retail, merchandising or analytics
· Understanding of cascading and range mix management
