NHS Biomedical Support Worker / Medical Lab Assistant - Leeds

Taskmaster are currently recruiting for a number of biomedical support worker positions working within the Blood Sciences Department of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Successful candidates will be required to provide a thorough clerical and administrative service to the department, catering to the needs of the biomedical scientists.

Location - LS1 & LS9

Shifts on a rota basis (37.5 hours) including unsociable hours, Monday to Sunday

Early shift - 07:30 to 16:00

Day shift - 08:30 to 17:00

Late shift - 12:30 to 21:00

Night shift - 20:45 to 08:00

Contract length - 3 months

Pay rate

Mon to Fri (day) - £7.00 p/h

Mon to Fri (night) & Saturday - £10.08 p/h

Sunday - £13.16 p/h

All rates increase after 12 weeks of starting the role

Main Duties

Perform appropriate technical laboratory procedures and tasks. These tasks may vary from day to day but examples would include:

• receiving diagnostic samples into the laboratory
• preparation of samples prior to processing, including sample collection when appropriate
• preparation of chemical reagents
• processing of certain clinical samples
• safe disposal of clinical / laboratory waste

Prepare materials for distribution to clinical areas

Enter and retrieve patient information using the laboratory computer system

Respond to telephone enquiries from users of the service in a manner that is in accordance with departmental procedures

Assist in the day to day monitoring, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment

When needed provide reception cover for the Pathology department

Demonstrate relevant job related tasks to new or more junior staff

Desirable Candidate

Essential

High level of attention to detail

Available to work night and weekend shifts when required

Data entry experience

Desirable

Previous experience of performing duties in a lab environment

Knowledge of biomedical terminology

Previous admin/clerical experience
