Leather craftworker apprentice/intern

Job description

We are seeking an ambitious, highly motivated, self-initiative individual who will take on the role of an apprentice/intern leather worker at a luxury British goods company based around Cambridge.

The internship role on offer is an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the mechanics involved in driving a successful luxury leather goods company.

As a Swaine Adeney Brigg leather craftworker you will:
- work with various types of leather, including cowhides, nubuck, chamois, shagreen and suede.
- work from a design pattern to measure and cut out leather sections prepare the leather using solvents.
- hand- or machine-stitch sections together fit linings, handles, buckles and eyelets
- apply finishes to the leather, such as stains, waxes and polishes.

You can also use your craft skills to make and repair specialist products and equipment. You will use hand and machine tools, including cutting and paring knives, edge shaves, pricking frames and awls. You might also use computer aided design (CAD) software to make up patterns, particularly when creating made-to-measure items.
