Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a detail-oriented student who can work independently. The bioreactor is operated by an automated computer system; thus, basic computer skills are required. To collect and handle samples from the bioreactor, the student needs to have basic laboratory skills, such as using pH meters, pipettes, analytical scales, volumetric flasks, mass cylinders, and etc. Preference will be given to students withwater and wastewater analysis skills for COD, NH3-N, NO3-N, NO2-N, TKN, organic phosphorus, total phosphorus, VSS, TSS, and etc. The student must have basic mechanical skills.
Safety shoes are required to work onsite.
Weekly hours: 40 hrs/week

What will you be doing?
The student will work at Adelaide Pollution Control Plant, in London, ON, to operate a pilot-scale wastewater treatment bioreactor for nutrient removal (ZeeLung Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor, Suez Water Technologies).
The main responsibilities of the student include: (1) operation and maintenance of the pilot-scale bioreactor system; (2) collection and analysis of wastewater samples from the bioreactor; (3) organization of analysis results and preparation of reports on bioreactor performance; (4) communication with engineers and researchers; and (5) handling minor mechanical problems of the bioreactor system. The student must havea valid drivers' license and access to a car.
