Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors are miniaturized mechanical devices created using microfabrication techniques common in the electronics industry. MEMS sensors are widely used in consumer, automotive, and industrial applications, such as tilting the display on a smartphone or enabling advanced vehicle safety features.
As a member of the MEMS design team, the MEMS designer contributes to all phases of product development for innovative MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes.
Main activities of the MEMS designer include:
•Perform feasibility studies and select sensor architectures to meet specifications.
•Design sensor layouts and conduct simulations to predict sensor performance across manufacturing variability and real-world application scenarios.
•Measure sensor prototypes in a laboratory environment to verify alignment between simulations and actual sensor behavior.
•
The ideal candidate has a background in mechanical engineering, physical engineering, or electronic engineering, demonstrates an interest in sensors and possesses a solid background in physics, mechanics, and electronics. Experience with finite element method (FEM) simulations and MATLAB® is preferred. Laboratory experience with instruments used for sensor validation is an advantage. A willingness to learn, a problem-solving mindset, curiosity, and a drive for innovation are essential, along with accountability and attention to detail.
