YOUR ROLE
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Application Engineer (FAE) with expertise in automotive power electronics, focusing on gate drivers, traction inverter systems and on-board chargers. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and customer support in the design, development, and implementation of power conversion solutions for automotive applications. A strong understanding of power semiconductor devices including IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, and Power MOSFETs tailored for automotive environments is essential.
Key Responsibilities
· Drive system-level promotion and technical support of automotive traction inverter solutions and gate driver ICs to internal teams and external customers.
· Troubleshoot complex application issues related to traction inverters, gate drivers, and power semiconductor devices.
· Support sales and marketing teams in positioning ST's automotive power semiconductor products and system solutions.
· Capture market trends and customer feedback to product divisions and system labs to influence product roadmap and development.
· Provide technical consultation and design assistance for customer applications involving power semiconductors, gate drivers, and traction inverter and on-board charger topologies.
· Collaborate with customers from prototype bring-up through mass production ensuring robust and reliable product implementation.
· Assist in the development and validation of new automotive traction inverter topologies and control strategies.
· Perform electrical testing, environmental validation, and EMC/EMI compliance testing relevant to automotive power electronics.
· Develop and deliver technical training, demos, and presentations on automotive power conversion products and solutions.
· Work closely with design engineers to improve product robustness, reliability, and manufacturability.
· Support PCB layout reviews and provide guidance on multilayer PCB design best practices for high-power automotive applications.
· Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations related to power semiconductor devices and gate drivers in automotive traction systems.
· Manage relationships with key customers and provide expert advice on power semiconductor selection and system integration.
· Develop demonstration boards and application notes tailored for automotive traction inverter and gate driver applications.
· Utilize simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink for system-level modeling and Simetrix/Simplix, SPICE component validation.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, quality, manufacturing, and marketing teams.
YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCES
· Strong knowledge of power semiconductor devices: IGBTs, Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs, and Power MOSFETs designed for automotive environments.
· 1-2 years of relevant experience.
· Understanding of automotive inverter topologies, on-board chargers topologies, gate driver ICs, and power conversion control strategies.
· Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and supporting automotive traction inverter systems and gate driver circuits.
· Familiarity with automotive standards and qualification processes (e.g., AEC-Q100, ISO 26262).
· Proficiency in using electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators) and simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink).
· Experience with PCB layout considerations for high-power automotive applications.
· Strong firmware knowledge with experience in embedded C/C++ programming for microcontrollers.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to customers and internal teams.
· Experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
· Knowledge of motor control algorithms and sensor integration.
· Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation techniques in automotive power electronics.
At STMicroelectronics, base salary is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
The base annual salary range for this role is between $ 103,400 to $129,300 USD
