Salary: £29,894 - £39,479 + Car (SSE6) depending on skills and experience

As part of the SSE Group, Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) owns one electricity transmission network and two electricity distribution networks, comprising 106,000 substations and 130,000 km of overhead lines and underground cables across one third of the UK.
The Wayleave Team support the regional new connections, supply restoration and construction teams across the business regions by legally protecting existing assets and securing permissions for proposed new assets. To ensure that this continues to run efficiently, we are looking to recruit a Wayleave Officer into our office in Portsmouth, providing services across the South East Region.
As a Wayleave Officer you will negotiate with customers and private landowners on a variety levels to secure legal agreements for the installation of SSEPD plant and equipment on third party land. You will agree the purchase or free transfer of land to locate plant and equipment and will resolve disputes between landowners and SSEPD regarding aged and lapsed agreements. Additionally, you will liaise with customers, land agents, legal representatives and SSE colleagues to prepare consent documents while resolving any disputes over wayleave rights, landownership or tree cutting matters.
To be successful, you will have previous experience of negotiating with land owners and knowledge of the legal processes for the acquisition of easements. Knowledge of the power distribution network and its main components would be advantageous, however full training and development will be provided.
Having excellent interpersonal skills, you will be capable of building lasting relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external to SSE and at all levels. As a result of this, you will have first class verbal and written communication skills as well as considerable negotiation and influencing abilities, being able to convey your position in a clear and concise manner.
You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly, accurately and independently whilst under pressure. We are always interested in new ways of working and will look to you for innovative ideas to improve customer service and move the business forwards. Strong I.T. skills are essential, in particular Microsoft Excel and Word.
Due to the nature of the business, you will be required to help the region with customer service and supply restoration emergencies out of hours. This includes standby duties out of hours as required. A full UK driving licence is required as you will be travelling to different sites and there may be occasions where an overnight stay is required.
