TRAINEE CONTROL ENGINEER

SALARY £36,270 - £47,905 (SSE 8) DEPENDING ON SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
SSE Power Distribution (SSEPD) is part of the SSE Group and is responsible for keeping the lights on for more than 5 million UK homes and businesses. If something unexpected causes a power cut in our regions, it is our job to fix it as quickly and as safely as possible.Our Network Management Centre work to keep electricity flowing to our customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Due to our continued growth in this area, exciting opportunities have arisen for Trainee Control Engineers to join our team in Portsmouth.
As part of this role, you will be responsible for co-ordinating planned and emergency activity on the electricity network to ensure we operate safely and maintain a reliable supply to our customers. Initially you will operate our 11,000 volt networks using the 'Power On' computer-based control system, however, once you have gained sufficient experience you may be expected to train as a shift-control engineer controlling networks operating at 132,000 volts.
To be successful in this role, you are required to hold an HNC or similar qualification in electrical engineering, or have practical experience of operating electrical distribution networks. Ideally you will be qualified to SAP status, or working towards this. You will possess excellent communication and decision making skills, displaying the ability to solve complex problems under pressure. You will also be a strong team player, motivating your team and yourself to identify and implement innovative and effective business improvements
