JOB LOCATION: READING OR PORTSMOUTH

£36,923 TO £54,685 (SSE8/9) DEPENDING ON SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

SSE is a British FTSE 35 Company and is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK. As part of the SSE Group, Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) owns one electricity transmission network and two electricity distribution networks, comprising 106,000 substations and 130,000 km of overhead lines and underground cables across one third of the UK.

The System Planning (South) team is responsible for the planning and development of the transmission and primary distribution networks in the South of England. The team's responsibilities include investment management of the network to meet growth in renewable generation and new demand and identifying project solutions to improve the health and performance of the network. We are looking for System Planning Engineers to manage the CAPEX investment programme, ensuring our electricity network remains fully compliant with the technical and regulatory requirements of our licence.

System Planning and Investment team act as custodian of the 132kV and EHV distribution network, provide business with technical expertise in terms of carrying out all aspects of the technical assessment, planning and development of the distribution network to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and licence requirements in the most economic, efficient and co-ordinated manner. Assess network performance, asset condition and network capacity and make recommendations for improvements to meet the current and future requirements of SSEPD and deliver regulatory outputs, outperformance, maximise incentives to ensure the primary network is fit for purpose.

You will work closely with a number of other teams in SSE, and contribute to the planning and development of the transmission and distribution networks in line with SSE's Licence obligations and the objectives set by the industry regulator in the Price Control Reviews. You will gain experience of working with other industry bodies, such as the industry regulator OFGEM, the UK Transmission Operator National Grid, and Renewable Developers.

To be successful, you will be qualified to at least HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, although a degree qualification is preferred. In addition to this you will have demonstrable experience and knowledge of power systems networks. Experience of network modelling would be highly advantageous. To obtain the higher salary and grade you will have proven experience of working at 132kV and above.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, being comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and external. You will be technically detail orientated as well as being able to demonstrate a wider commercial awareness in your decision making. You must be self disciplined with excellent organisational skills, capable of working on your own initiative and to deadlines within a high pressure environment. Due to the nature of the role, a full driver's licence is essential.
