Job description
ENERGY SHIFT TRADER
WHOLESALE – ENERGY PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT
PERTH
SALARY £30,500 TO £46,000 + BONUS
DEPENDING ON SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
At SSE, we believe in making a difference. We have invested over £1 billion in UK infrastructure, in the past year alone, and employ over 19,000 people across Great Britain and Ireland, so that we can provide the energy that people need, in a reliable and sustainable way.
The Energy Management Centre sits within Energy Portfolio Management, the commercial hub of SSE. EPM manages SSE's diverse portfolio of assets in the energy chain, including thermal and renewable generation, upstream gas exploration and production facilities, and gas storage sites. It sources energy for our customers to use, and is also responsible for long term contracts in physical fuel supplies and renewable certificates.
The EMC supports our business by managing real time energy balances and market exposures from SSE's assets and customers. We trade real time gas and electricity from the day ahead stage until delivery, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We currently have an opportunity for a Shift Trader to join our team based in Perth.
You will be responsible for managing the short term energy portfolio for SSE. This will include ensuring our energy portfolio is economically despatched, scheduled and traded in a manner where we satisfy all of the legal, compliance and market obligations. You will have a primary focus on helping to deliver budgets while managing the electricity or gas positions and the balancing services offered by us.
To be successful in this role you will have experience of working in a commercial environment and ideally you will be educated to degree level, although as long as you have equivelant work experience this is not essential. Demonstrable knowledge of the GB and Ireland energy markets and assets would also be benefitial.
You will have excellent communication and analytical skills with the flexibility and drive to succeed in a fast pace operations environment. You will have strong interpersonal skills as this role involved communicating complex information to all areas of the business.
We take pride in our work and employ people who care about quality and want to be part of the SSE family. We believe our people are our most important asset and in developing our staff to be the best they can be.
"In our annual engagement survey our staff voted us as a great place to work"
