An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Graduate at the launch of their legal career to join an exciting legal team based at SSE Legal Services in Reading.
SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK and Ireland with around 9 million customers and over 19,000 staff. SSE's in-house Legal team has recently been nominated for a number of industry awards and it is recognised as a market leader in the provision of legal services for a FTSE 100 business.
We are looking for a candidate to act as paralegal working in our recently expanded Data Protection team and for a person who succeeds in this role there will be an opportunity to join our two year in-house Trainee Programme.
In the Data Protection team you will assist the Head of Data Protection in giving pragmatic legal advice and support to SSE's business ensuring compliance with data protection and communications laws and promoting a culture of good data protection within the business.
Your work will involve advising on general data protection issues, data sharing arrangements, drafting data protection policies and procedures and you will learn about the practical implications of the new General Data Protection Regulation which has just become law.
If you enter our comprehensive trainee solicitor programme, you will be exposed to business areas across SSE, enabling you to gain invaluable experience – working on open cases and supporting live projects. Your development will include a number of placements within the Legal team and you will also have the support of a business mentor who will guide you through the process and assist you in reaching your full potential.
You will be educated to degree level at a 2:1 or above with post graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. We are looking for the future leaders of our business; you must therefore be flexible, self motivated and confident in your decision making. Your communication and interpersonal skills are vital as you will be responsible for representing the business at all levels and with various internal and external stakeholders on a daily basis. Your ability to work as part of a team is also imperative to your success.
