DATA NETWORK ENGINEER
HAVANT/PERTH
SALARY £33,520 TO £49,645 (DEPENDING ON SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE)
SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK and a successful player in the UK energy supply business with around 10 million customers across our various brands.
SSE Enterprise Telecoms operate a 13,700km UK-wide telecoms network, providing services to other telecommunication providers, commercial customers and public sector organisations as well as the SSE group.
Due to significant growth, we are looking for a Data Network Engineer to join the Operational Networking team to help support the UK wide data network which provides mission critical services to the SSE Group and commercial telecommunication customers.
As a Data Network Engineer you will be expected to support national networks running L2 switching, L3 routing and MPLS. You will provide technical support, day to day maintenance and monitoring of the networking infrastructure both LAN and WAN for SSEET Corporate and SSEET Commercial customers. You will undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments using information from multiple sources.
You will also schedule and perform network upgrades and collaborate with network architects on network design and optimisation. Liaising with project management teams, you will carry out network builds and deployment.
Successful candidates should have experience in Cisco hardware configuration and support. You should have experience of Alcatel/Lucent hardware configuration and support and Layer 2 protocols such as – Ethernet, Spanning Tree, VLAN's and MPLS. You should be experienced in Layer 3 protocols such as – OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IP addressing/subnetting.
Although Cisco / Alcatel certification (CCNA level or equivalent) would be beneficial this is by no means a prerequisite. You will be flexible, committed and a self motivated team worker, with excellent organisational skills, including prioritising workloads. You will be expected to work on your own initiative but also work well as part of a small team.
