Mission

Description of Business Line:

The Western European Repo Desk is one of the key trading desks within the Fixed Income division of Market Activities at Society Generale Corporate and Investment Banking. Its primary role is internally to ensure the financing and short-covering of all cash trader's positions within the Division, but first and foremost to service a wide range of clients externally, from Central banks to Asset Managers to Hedge funds, in all their securities-financing requests.

Summary of Role:

1 - To finance and cover the fixed-income positions of the bank and manage the liquidity of the fixed-income books, essentially in the core government debts issued by the Governments of Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Finland, but also in all others when required.

2 - To quote clients in all their securities financing queries regarding the same perimeter as described above, either directly within the sales-trader mandate or through a salesperson.
3 - To monitor all securities financing exposures and risk, ensuring they always remain within the limits defined.

Responsibilities:

• Short covering and financing of core-government debt, or any other assigned
• Market-making of securities financing requests from clients
• Managing the liquidity of fixed-income books
• Ensuring that trading is always executed within trading limits, and input correctly and in a timely manner
• Ensuring that all communications and dealing with clients, directly or not, remain appropriate and within the remit of the sales-trader mandate
• Ensuring that compliance regulations are being adhered to at all times, to immediately notify compliance of any suspected or realised breach
• Keeping up to date with the evolution of products, markets, internal rules and regulation
• Ensuring that all documentation is completed in time and to the required standard

Delegated Responsibilities:

While trading is expected to be conducted in an autonomous manner or in partnership with a colleague of the same desk, it is expected to constantly follow the code of conduct of SG, and to respect existing limits at all times.

External Contacts:

The trader is expected to be constantly in contact with many market participants: from peers of the interbank market, to intermediary brokers, to salespeople, to clients directly. There will also be a quasi-constant contact with the middle office and back office departments to ensure - primarily but not solely - the settlement of transactions executed, as well as the overall funding requirements. Given the evolving nature of the business, one would expect also to spend significant time with the Engineering team for more complex solutions offered to clients, but also with fixed income traders, other repo traders within the Group, risk, accounting, compliance and legal departments.

Level Of Autonomy:

Day to day trading expected to be done fully autonomously, as long as within the limits and remit. Large and significant deals will require pre-approval by management and potentially various risk departments. Dealing with clients directly will be limited as defined in the sales-trader mandate.
