Property development and management internship

  • Internship
  • London (Greater London)
  • Sales

Job description

Shojin Capital is a young business in the field of property development and property investments. We are mostly central-London focussed. In developments, we look at developing small blocks of flats, as well as refurbishment and extension of houses and flats. In addition, we source high yielding investment property for ourselves and clients, and we will rent out and manage those properties ourselves.

With so many bright graduates out there, we want to encourage more of them to go into the entrepreneurial world of property. Therefore we are offering 1 or 2 internships, during which interns can learn about property development, property management, sourcing properties, etc.

The interns will spend a great deal of their time sourcing properties with development or refurbishment potential. The interns will learn how to source properties, assess build costs, analyse the local market and establish end values so that they can do a complete assessment to identify properties of true value. They can then get involved in the development or refurbishment project as well and learn how to manage a project from start to end.

As we are a small business, we are unable to pay the intern, however we will cover reasonable travel expenses (usually a zone 1 & 2 travelcard). We will also provide £5/day for lunch. In addition, we may, at our discretion, reward interns if they source a property which we then proceed to buy and develop.

Our office is in Bloomsbury, close to Tottenham Court Road Underground station. Working hours will be 9am to 6pm, but occasionally will be longer when there are deadlines approaching.

In the long term, this may lead to a paid position, however this very much depends on the value you bring to the business, and naturally how the business itself is doing. A paid position is no guarantee, and therefore this is first and foremost for those people that want to learn and get experience working in this field.

If you are interested, please send your CV, and a detailed covering letter explaining why you want this internship. Without a covering letter you will not be considered. Make your covering letter as interesting as you can, we want to see your passion for working in property, and to understand what you are hoping to achieve through the internship.
(note: If you do not spend time on writing a good CV and Covering Letter, we will not spend time reading it!)

Desired profile

You will ideally be (or soon be) a university graduate, or have at least 5 years experience working since leaving school.
You must also:
- have a strong interest in property
- be a hard worker
- understand numbers and how to create and work with simple formulas on Excel
- be able to work proficiently with MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint
- be enthusiastic to learn
- present yourself in a professional manner
- be creative in the way you carry out research (both online and physical)
- be extremely well organised
- be able to communicate well (both written and verbal)

You also need to be comfortable pounding the streets, because the property business and property sourcing in particular requires a lot of walking around!

Make every future a success.
