DEPARTMENT:
The Program Business Unit is located in Chicago together with the US Treaty Team of SCOR Global P&C, the non-life division of SCOR. The Program Team focuses on producing and managing program business, but more specifically MGAs (delegated insurance underwriting).
Established in 2014, the Program Unit has been expanding with a core team of underwriters relying on allocated resources from the Treaty Team (i.e. pricing actuaries, CAT modellers, Claims representatives...).
The Program Team has since then been identified as one of the key initiatives of the division for the next three year strategic plan: Vision in Action. As part of this plan, SCOR will expand its MGA tools and capabilities in order to increase its presence in Specialty and SME Corporate Risks using its admitted and surplus lines paper. Specifically, it will implement a best-in-class IT system to manage in real-time its relationships with MGAs across all major activities.
This tool, which is currently under development, aims at managing the entire insurance lifecycle of the MGA process and holistic portfolios. It will be encompass multiple SCOR platforms at Channel (Lloyds syndicate) and SCOR.
It is expected to enable on-line and real time monitoring of the business that is being put into our books enabling better steering of the MGA’s underwriting. It will also industrialize the process of data acquisition (bordereaux and risk exposure), reconciliation and communication with SCOR systems.
The project will have two phases and last the duration of the plan (i.e. three years):
- Phase 1: Develop an underwriting controls platform, to be operational by July 2017.
- Phase 2: Enhance and complete the platform with additional functionalities to manage the full MGA value chain
MISSION & RESPONSIBILITIES
You will contribute to the Program Business Unit objectives within the framework of the responsibilities described below.
- As a member of the Program Business Team you will be reporting to the Program Business Manager.
- You will directly support the program underwriters while interacting with the Operations Manager and all supporting functions (legal, claims, technical accounting, pricing, reserving, compliance)
- From time to time, and as needed, you will engage directly with the MGAs and TPAs (claims) either remotely (email, call, video conference) or on site (nationwide audits/visits).
- You will actively participate to MGA production driven tasks:
o monthly coordination calls
o publication of quarterly reports
o MGA operational audits: onsite audits and recommendation follow-up
o Ad-hoc projects such as states data calls
o Treaty reinsurance placement
o Annual plan exercise
- You will work towards industrializing current processes such as:
o Marketing plan
o Tracking audit recommendations
o Reviewing and updating ICS mapping and controls
- You will contribute to the development of the IT system described above, by facilitating the migration process of the tasks currently performed by underwriters toward operations and participating to the testing phases at different advancement stages of the project.
PROFILE:
University graduate with a degree in business management or engineering and further education in project management, marketing and/or insurance.
No previous insurance experience is required although preferable.
Proficiency with computers, including experience using Microsoft Office products.
Strong written and spoken communication skills to support client facing and reporting to management.
Exact in analytics while able to differentiate when coming to conclusions with effective organizational skills, accuracy and being detail orientated.
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Comfortable to operate as part of a task force within a matrix type environment.
Positive attitude with a collaborative mind set approach
Ability to communicate and actively engage with stakeholders across units and on different management levels.
Excellent English written and oral skills required.
