An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician to work in our Microbiology Laboratory in Barhill. This position will involve working in our busy microbiology laboratory in Barhill preparing food and water samples in order for them to be analysed in the next stage of the process.

Scientific Analysis Laboratories (SAL Ltd) is a branch of Concept Life Sciences, specialising in accredited analytical services for the Life, Food and Environment sectors in the UK. Established in 1990 as an independent company and acquired by Concept Life Sciences in 2014, SAL has five of the most up to date laboratory facilities in Europe. There are five sites spread throughout the UK in Manchester, Cambridge, Braintree, East Kilbride and Moy in Northern Ireland.
Our laboratory in Cambridge specialises in testing food for contaminants such as microbes e.g. Ecoli and Salmonella, chemical contaminants such as pesticide residues and Mycotoxins. To further add to this, we also test the nutritional content of processed food for labeling purposes.

The position
Reporting to the Microbiology Laboratory Manager, working in a busy team, your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Working within the laboratory in accordance to our standard operating procedures
- Preparing samples in order for them to be analysed
- Registering samples and ensuring correct storage
- Other general laboratory duties
Due to the nature of the samples received, the laboratory is open 365 days a year. You will work 37.5 hours per week on a shifts between 8.30am - 9.00pm.
Flexibility outside of these hours may be required at busy times.
About you
This role is vital in our operational chain as you would be preparing the samples in order for them to be analysed further down the line, a high attention to detail is essential. You would have a keenness to assist with all available tasks in the laboratory and enjoy working as part of a team.
There may be a lot of practical techniques involved in your day to day duties, so whilst experience in a professional laboratory environment is not a requirement, a passion and interest in science is. This role is very fast paced, therefore demonstrable experience within a fast paced environment where you have worked to tight deadlines is desirable.
