The Opportunity

Schneider Electric seeks a professional, experienced and detailed individual for our Protection Relay Specialist position. If you enjoy travelling and meeting with customers to resolve a wide variety of technical issues in the area of substation automation then we would like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

Technical

· Ensure quality, and provide on-site or remote technical assistance to customers (internal and external) during installation and commissioning, warranty, service, repair and maintenance of Schneider Electric substation automation products and systems.

· Perform factory acceptance and site acceptance testing of Schneider Electric substation automation products at customer facilities.

· Troubleshoot equipment applying own knowledge and experience.

· Document and report malfunctions and identify/analyze any undesirable trends.

· Develop and maintain a high level of technical expertise in the field of electric power system protection and/or automation.

· Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of Schneider Electric equipment and solutions with respect to electric power system protection and automation products.

· Train customers (internal and external) with respect to installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from Schneider Electric offices.

· Review and prepare settings files for substation automation products based on customer specifications.

General

· Deliver a high level of technical and professional level of service to customers, with significant focus on safety and quality.

· Leverage appropriate resources within the organization to ensure customer satisfaction and effective resolution of customer issues.

· Continuously identify measure and improve processes.

· Prepare timesheets, service reports, expense reports and other documents immediately following work assignments.

· Work in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner which includes reporting accidents and unsafe conditions promptly.

· Other duties as assigned.

Sales

· Propose optimizations and general improvements to customers with respect to their operations or processes: includes proposing retrofit solutions.

Desired profile

Qualifications

· Bachelor's of Applied Science or Engineering degree with a focus in electrical/computer engineering or related discipline.

· Minimum three years experience in commissioning and testing of electric power substations, secondary systems and protective relays.

· Experience in fault finding, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of problems associated with industrial control systems, instrumentation, and HMI/SCADA packages.

· Working knowledge of modern electrical test and measurement equipment.

· Knowledge of computer architecture, analog/digital electronics and digital signal processing.

· Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills.

· Strong writing, documentation and speaking skills.

· Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

· Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

· Ability to adapt to revised priorities and unforeseen problems.

· Ability to act decisively based on incomplete information concerning complex technical matters.

· Ability to work non-standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.

· Ability to travel within North America up to 60% of the time.

· Background checks satisfactory to Schneider Electric.

Preferred Qualifications

· Professional engineering license.

· Experience using MiCOM, SEL or GE Multilin numerical protection relays.
