I: JOB SCOPE

The Government Relations intern would assist the North America Government Relations team in both issues, management, analysis, and external and internal communication. The office is primarily focused on new energy economy issues, with some defense, tax and trade issues.

This internship will offer the opportunity to gain valuable skills, network, and learn about Capitol Hill, government affairs, regulation and legislation in the energy space.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, writing, investigative, interpersonal and communicative skills, have the ability to multi-task and work as a team player.

II: RESPONSIBILITES

- Attend Congressional hearings

- Visit with key Congressional offices

- Attend meetings/conference calls on as needed basis with stakeholders (NGOs, trade associations, agencies, etc.)

- Review and summarize legislation, regulations, rulings (primarily Federal, but potentially states)

- Support internal communications: biweekly newsletter

- Input and track business opportunities developed by GR

- Monitor agency grant opportunities (primarily DOE, DOT, EPA)

III: LEVEL OF EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

* Working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations or other related field.

* Understanding of the political process at either a local, state, federal or international level.

* Must possess excellent written and oral communications skills, with professional writing/editing experience preferred.

* Must be exceptionally detail-oriented.

* Self-starter that can work independently, complete projects with little supervision, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

* Interpersonal skills (for working internally on opportunities or externally at association meetings)
