Job description

SAS Canada is looking for an enthusiastic recent graduate to join our Toronto team. As a member of the Education department you will teach SAS courses on statistics, data mining/predictive modeling and other analytical topics at SAS training centers, customer sites and over the web. You will develop statistical, data mining/predictive modeling or other analytical courses for general audiences. You will also develop customized training materials, industry or client specific courses, and mentoring materials for presentation at customer sites. You will also support Pre-sales, Customer Loyalty and Consulting departments as needed

The role is targeted at recent (or relatively recent – less than 2 years) graduates of an analytically related degree or program, e.g. Statistics, Analytics, Data Science. The role will be provided significant training and exposure to SAS's analytical products, as well as experience and training related to instruction skills. The training path is intended to rapidly bring the resource up the curve in terms of skills and exposure.

The role will provide support nationally, and across all the verticals SAS Canada does business in, including Financial Services, Telecommunications, Retail, Gaming & Hospitality, Public Sector and Utilities.

Given the national mandate of the role, bilingualism would be a strong asset.

Major Responsibilities:

As described, there will be significant investments made in product training and skills development, with the intent of the resource rapidly developing the business and technical skills required to provide course delivery to customers. Typical Instructor-related activities can include:

· Teaches Data Mining and Applied Analytics courses, as well as high performance visualization, modeling and forecasting.
· Delivers mentoring or custom workshops to customers, partners or internal staff.
· Develops new Education offerings that will meet specific needs of our customers relating to an industry or subject area within Analytics.
· Has one area of specialization that relates directly to one of the Analytics Solution offerings within the SAS Canada Portfolio.
· Acts as an Education resource for Customers and SAS employees in the areas of Data Mining and Statistics. Supports Pre-Sales/Sales/Marketing/Consulting/Loyalty initiatives where analytical expertise, enablement and capability knowledge is needed.
· Presents and participates in industry or SAS conferences speaking to the business pains and the SAS solutions and capabilities to address these. Develops and presents materials and demos for User Group Meetings, and other short topic seminars.
· Increases proficiency in the use of our technology including SAS Foundation, SAS/STAT, ETS, QC, OR, Enterprise Miner, High performance forecasting and HP analytics.
· Travels an average of six to nine days per month to teach courses at SAS training centers and customer sites within Canada and internationally.
· Supporting relevant components of formal proposals and RFP responses

Additional responsibilities can include

· Assisting in Education demand-generation activities
· Ensuring successful transition of solution requirements to the Implementation teams
· Providing internal education
· Maintain a high degree of familiarity with relevant emerging trends in technology and architecture.

Desired profile

Skills/Competencies (some are to be further developed as part of the successful candidate's skills development program):

· Recent graduate of an Analytics or Statistics-related program at a Masters level (or equivalent)
· Develop and maintain deep knowledge of SAS analytics-related solutions, products and technologies, to a level which will support meeting the objectives and activities described above.
· Develop and maintain relevant higher-level knowledge of broader SAS capabilities and differentiators
· Significant understanding and experience in defining analytical solutions, and how they will fit into clients' business and technical environments.
· Experience with SAS, external databases, data cleansing, data validation, Hadoop and related technologies.
· Experience teaching in a classroom and one on one environment as well as working knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies for Technical Training.
· Highly effective communications and relationship skills (written, presentation, conversational) to teach/present/communicate effectively at all levels of client organizations
· Ability to develop and maintain key client relationships
· High levels of proactivity, creativity, curiosity, self-motivation, and thirst for knowledge. Goal oriented and competitive.
· Works effectively in virtual and formal teams, takes ownership and shows leadership within the team and with client interaction and relationships.
· Bilingual capabilities a strong plus.

Effort:

· Performs multiple tasks concurrently, which requires effective time and project management skills.

· Needs to prioritize and balance time between prospecting new opportunities, executing on existing scenarios and maintaining customer and internal relationships.

· May need to work varying time schedules to accommodate requirements and meet customer time lines, deadlines and critical events.

· Will need to independently to devote time and effort to maintain SAS solution knowledge and industry expertise.

· In line with the national mandate of the role, travel is involved to SAS clients and offices across Canada and be able to work and travel to the USA. Travel varies week to week but on average can be 30-40%.
