The SAP HANA Cloud Platform is the technological foundation of this strategy. It offers unique capabilities for realizing data-intensive cloud applications as a Service. We target massive cloud scale and responsiveness by leveraging leading open source technologies such as OpenStack, Cloud Foundry, Apache Spark and Cassandra in concert with differentiating SAP technologies such as SAP HANA and SAP HANA Vora.

 

We are looking for new talent to complement our Operations and Site Reliability Engineering teams responsible for the Big Data foundation.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

 

As a Software Engineer in the Big Data SRE team you will have the opportunity to operate, support and tackle complex problems, develop tools for thoroughly crafted, robust, well-tested big data services built on latest open source and SAP technologies.

You will be responsible for:

·  Design, implement and deliver tools to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Big Data services.
·  Solve problems relating to mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence; with the goal of automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
·  Influence and create new designs, architectures, standards and methods for large-scale distributed systems.
·  Engage in service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis and system tuning.
·  Conduct periodic on call duties.

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

 

Required skills

 

·  A good bachelor or master degree in computer science, natural science or a related technical discipline
·  Proficiency in Java and/or C/C++
·  Confidence working within Unix / Linux environments.
·  Interest and understanding of distributed systems and cloud infrastructures
·  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
·  Fluent English

 

Preferred skills

 

·  Experience in Cloud, Big Data or Machine Learning context
·  Experience in working with leading Cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, GCP, SAP HCP
·  Or experience with container based solutions, e.g. Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes
·  Further programming languages, such as Go, Python, Ruby
·  Experience in cloud deployment tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, BOSH or similar.
·  Knowledge of related open source products. Own prior contributions are a plus.
·  Hands-on experience with agile software engineering, CI/CD best practices
·  Knowledge in design patterns, object oriented and functional programming and parallel, distributed algorithms
·  Experience in building and trouble-shooting distributed systems

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

 

·  Graduates are welcome! Up to 2 years of work experience in a respective software development area
