Purpose and Objectives
As a placement student at SAP, you will work within SAP UK's in-house legal department of 7 lawyers, working on legal issues and assisting with the review of legal documentation. You will act as primary point of contact for the business in relation to specific legal operational issues as well as software consulting documentation. You shall also assist the team with other legal department matters such as litigation support, enforcement of SAP's trademarks, and potentially software licence transactions.
Expectations and Tasks
As a legal intern you will report to General Counsel & Legal Director for SAP UK, Ireland and Nordics, and work closely with other members of UK legal department. We will train you to:
- Assist with drafting and reviewing SAP consulting services documentation and aid the consulting services contracting process.
- Review, negotiate and approve documentation for SAP UK's procurement & marketing department.
- Help the legal department enforce trade marks in accordance with company policy.
- Review and negotiate Non-Disclosure/ Confidentiality Agreements.
- Deliver training sessions to other departments on legal and compliance topics.
- Provide a monthly induction to new employees on business conduct and ethical business practices.
As part of your role you will also:
- Update the legal department on developments in statute and case law that impacts the business.
- Review business processes to recommend ways of optimising them (examples could include, contract approval process efficiency measures).
Ideal Candidate: (Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies)
Bright articulate, motivated student who is currently anticipating a 1st or 2:1 in law or law related degree. This student shall understand and work according to the requirements of a sales business in a high pressure and fast-paced environment.
Candidates should have the following key skills:
- Effective communicator / good interpersonal skills
- Business, Legal, IT experience / working knowledge would be an advantage
- Time Management
- Excellent legal research skills
- Conversational skills in a secondary language would be an advantage
- Strong writing skills (good grammar/spelling is essential)
- Team player
- High energy level
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize work accordingly
- Creative
- Ability to answer queries and provide solutions
