PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The SAP HANA Platform is the basis for new, ground-breaking applications and is the crown jewel in the SAP database software portfolio. Natively optimized for in-memory computing made possible by advances in main memory, multi-core processing, and data management, the SAP HANA Platform leverages innovations to enable real-time analysis of business data by simultaneously supporting both transactional and analytic workloads on the same data to radically improve business process functionality while providing massive reductions in latency which improves both the quality and the speed of data processing and decision-making.

The SAP HANA Database team develops the engines that perform parallel in-memory processing and query processing of huge data sets that converge OLTP and OLAP processing on a distributed shared-nothing systems while extending the application platform with modern development capabilities such as predictive models, geospatial data, series-oriented data, and graph data, to name a few. The major focus area of this role is to support the migration and optimization of all of SAP’s Cloud Properties (e.g., Ariba, SuccessFactors, Concur) onto the SAP HANA Platform. We seek highly motivated and experienced database engineers to extend our HANA Database Development team in support of these Cloud Applications.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

As part of the SAP HANA Database team, you will be working with a group of exceptionally talented and motivated colleagues. You will need to:

· Act as a highly credible technical liaison between core HANA product development and the various SAP Cloud stakeholders, both in their development and operations teams.
· Debug and resolve complex database engine problems with SAP Cloud stakeholders
· Identify and document best practices for Developers to improve the functional value of the applications to the end-user.
· Identify and document best practices for Operations Teams to improve the performance and efficient operation of the system to meet the service-level expectations of cloud customers.
· Some travel, up to 25% or so will be required to the other locations of the SAP HANA database teams and SAP Cloud teams to collaborate on projects

Your tasks will also include:

· Close cooperation with HANA development to set up systems, scenarios and develop prototypes of functional and performance enhancements
· Analyze performance and scalability of the SAP HANA database for use in SAP Cloud Applications
· Advise SAP Cloud Development teams on optimal methods of building high performance and highly available applications for the SAP Cloud
· Provide feedback to and work hand-in-hand with development to continuously improve the features, operation, and documentation of HANA databases in support of SAP Cloud Applications.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for candidates who are committed to a technology career path and who display that rare knowledge and experience that combine system software internals with an understanding of business applications delivered in the cloud.

· University degree in computer science, engineering or a related area
· Strong knowledge of database architectures, both from an “internals” perspective (e.g., query processing, storage, etc.) and production deployment / operations perspective
· Strong working knowledge of Cloud architectures or hands-on experience in the development or operation of large scale OLTP or OLAP database applications
· Experience with LINUX skills and experience (e.g., troubleshooting end-to-end problems in multi-tier systems running on complex technology stacks, etc.)
· Ability to analyze, debug, and performance tune complex technical problems in large distributed systems
· Experience with SQL, C++, JAVA, Python, Shell Scripting
· Prior experience with customers and product management
· Ability to work well in distributed teams over several international locations
· Ability to travel, up to 25% or so will be required to collaborate on projects
· Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills

A plus will be experience and skills in:

· Using code profilers and debuggers (like GDB)
· Broad understanding of the technology components of large scale database deployments (e.g., operating systems, storage, network, etc.)
· Understanding of data partitioning and distribution strategies for database deployments (e.g., scale-out and replication)
· Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery technologies and techniques in database systems;
· Understanding of virtualization and containerization technologies and products used in modern Cloud architectures
· Effective communication skills to non-technical and executive teams

· This is an early talent/ entry level position
· Must be able to work onsite in Dublin, CA
