SAP is currently expanding the global Data Science team that is responsible for building advanced analytics and Machine Learning solution content, leading SAP software demand generation and driving innovation initiatives that address the latest business needs.

The SAP Data Science team brings value to its customers by helping them leverage SAP solutions to unlock the power if Big Data and improve business results.

The SAP ML Engineer/ Data Scientist works with SAP strategic customers, SAP product development, project delivery teams and the SAP partner ecosystem to bring value to its customers.

One example for such a data science solution is price optimization for retail stores: Retailers collect huge amounts of data on their pricing and related sales volumes. Mathematical models can predict future sales based on the price of a product and external factors (like the season of the year) and then determine the optimum price for each product to maximize profit.

In this role, the ML Engineer/ Data Scientist works with SAP Regional and Global organizations. Among a few of these organizations we find: Database & Technology Sales, Database & Technology Center of Excellence, Industry Value Engineering and Data Science Consulting Services.

 

The value of the ML Engineer/ Data Scientist is to translate our customers’ business needs into an SAP Advanced Analytics solution. This position requires the ability to work and communicate as a part of a high performance team in an international environment.

 

The ML Engineer/ Data Scientist works with SAP solutions as well as open source environments (machine learning, Big Data, distributed computing) to provide the next generation of SAP solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

 

For the ML Engineer/ Data Scientist position, we are considering professionals or graduates with exceptionally high analytical problem-solving skills. A strong interest in scientific and technical work is required. Candidates are expected to quickly develop business consulting and sales capabilities on the job, with the ability to communicate effectively in an international team environment.

 

The ideal candidate covers the following expertise areas:

 

Background:

 

·  Master/PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Analytics
·  Data Science Modeling
·  Consulting experience
·  Industry background
·  Business Development
·  Project / Program Management
·  2+ years related work experience

 

 

Personal skills:

 

·  Learn new mathematical or technical methods quickly and with little guidance
·  Capable to participate in the sales process as a data science subject matter expert
·  Program Management skills
·  Ability to deliver clear, concise presentations to non-scientific audiences
·  High energy, clear goal orientation and strong work ethic; “can do” attitude
·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·  Fluent English and Greek is a must (as a working and customer facing language)
·  Fluent German or French is an additional advantage (as a working and customer facing language)

 

 

Customer facing skills:

 

·  Execution of Business to Data Science Workshops
·  Capture customer innovation requirements and translate them into solution specifications
·  Independent contributor to Data Science projects
·  Explain complex information in a clear and precise manner
·  Good presentation skills

 

 

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

 

·  Technical experience is required in many of the following areas:
·  Distributed Computing and Open source machine learning, for example: Hadoop, Spark MLlib, scikit-learn, Theano, H2O, TensorFlow, Weka
·  Programming: R, Python, JavaScript, Java, HTML5, Scala, C++
·  Database & application development: SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, library calls, REST APIs, database queries, software engineering best practices
·  Database servers, for example: SAP HANA, Sybase, Mongodb, Apache Spark
·  Agile-scrum development experience
·  Visualization tools: SAP UI5, SAP BusinessObjects, etc
