Our current focus is on Predictive Maintenance, i.e. the prevention of repair and warranty costs by an early recognition of bad machine states. Models for suchlike failure predictions can be created for example by automatically examining historic sensor telemetry data, but also natural language textual descriptions. In this context, we are using HANA, SAP's new very fast database, to support algorithms for the automated construction of prediction models. Integrating very large datasets from heterogeneous sources for prediction model construction is therefore one of the main challenges.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

Your tasks in this context may (amongst others) include conceptual work or prototypical programming for:
- Preparation, transformation and suitability evaluation of large datasets as input for prediction model construction algorithms
- Improving the scalability of prediction model construction algorithms
- Extracting structured information from unstructured natural language texts
- Facilitating the construction of prediction models for customers by providing appropriate parameterization and visualization means An active discussion and shaping of the concrete tasks together with the applicant is highly appreciated. We can influence the definition of the topic in the described domain based on your personal experience and interest. More technical or more conceptual work is possible We offer a great and team oriented working environment, the possibility to extend your practical experience and theoretical knowledge within a team of data scientists and industrial researchers. Guided by mentors from our data scientist team, you will be supported throughout your working time at SAP Customer Engagement and Strategic Projects and encouraged to work on your own initiative as well as to develop new ideas.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

We are searching for a student (f/m) in the field of computer science or similar studies. Knowledge and interest as well as preferably basic experiences in at least one of the following conceptual areas is required:
- Machine Learning
- Database Performance Tuning
- Statistics
- Parallel Programming Your technical skills should include at least one of the following: SQL, R, C++, Hadoop Good level of English as well as German (written and spoken) required. Team players are welcome!Start as soon as possible, preferred duration 6 months
