Enterprise:

From prevention to treatment, Sanofi transforms scientific innovation into healthcare solutions, in human vaccines, rare diseases, multiple sclerosis, oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, diabetes and cardiovascular solutions and consumer healthcare. Poste et missions:
These positions mix in-depth training and skills development related to business and legal/IP term negotiation as well as with exposure to a range of functions involved in R&D Transactions (Business Development, R&D, legal, patent and finance). It's the perfect way to make a smooth and successful transition from the academic education to the world of open innovation and external research collaboration at Sanofi. This rotational program offers two positions starting at the same time at two different sites (SANOFI US and SANOFI Deutschland). Each rotation is of 12 months length and each candidate is coached and supported by a member of the R&D Transactions team.
Increasing innovation in R&D is one of the major thrusts under the transformed R&D organization. SANOFI recognizes that the majority of pharma innovation would be externally generated. Consequently, we need to be well equipped to partner with external innovators. The R&D Transaction (R&D-T) department is part of the Business Development and Strategy unit, a global enabling function with Sanofi Group. The R&D-T department is essentially the partnering arm of SANOFI’s R&D. This group is composed of individuals who know the external world, who have a deep knowledge of science and who will bring the last piece to a set of activities from scouting to evaluation and finally to Alliance structuring and contract negotiation.
Two groups are responsible for the contracting and R&D-T activities, one in the US and one in Europe. Those two groups will work closely, sharing the same processes and interfacing in the same way with all the Therapeutic Area and R&D Support Platform units. The mission of the R&D-T teams will be dual:
o establishing well-structured deals with appropriate terms in full adequation with the needs of the R&D units,
o and bringing their expertise to various groups within PSI or even beyond in the context of specific missions.
Duties: After an initial period, the candidate will further act as a junior transaction manager and under the support of his/her manager, will structure, negotiate and establish early stage R&D deals for various R&D units. The candidate will work actively at the interface with other functions such as finance, legal, business development and patents. Activities will be reported and deal summaries log into the R&D-T internal database.
The task will allow the candidate understanding the different components of a deal flow as well as identify the contractual obligations and rights of each deal and be able to summarize the key provisions into a legal writing in plain English and use the global contract database. The deals include evaluation, technology/material licensing, and sponsored research agreements.
Profil:
The candidate should be independent, self-driven, highly motivated and well-organized in order to meet his/her goals.
Skills:
- Ability to understand the terms and conditions of agreements (intellectual properties provisions, publication language, long-term obligations, etc…)
- Excellent English writing skills and straight thinking for legal writing in plain English
- Demonstrating ability to work with different database software and willingness to learn and master it.
- Motivation for law, high intelligence, superior analytical and critical thinking, curiosity, persistence, realism, flexibility, independence and self-discipline
- Act in confidential capacity with sensitive information
Education: A candidate for the position of R&D Transaction Specialist should be in possession of both master degree in Biology, pharmaceutical or medical Science or equivalent and a law school degree with a focus on Intellectual Property law. Relevant experience such as in the field of technology licensing within an academic institution or in the field of R&D transaction for the pharmaceutical industries is a pre-requisite. Excellent English language skills; both oral and written. French and German language skills are a plus.
