The Head, Capability Building acts as strategic learning partner and member of the Leadership Team for the assigned Function(s), understanding the business and associated roles and their learning and development needs. The Head, Capability Building understands the business strategy and challenges and designs the Learning Strategy. They define and manage learning expectations, including incorporating regulatory compliance aspects, and ensure effective implementation and delivery of learning solutions, leading to capability enhancement and identified business results. They lead identification and enhancement of learning curricula and solutions, to ensure Global Development associates possess all necessary current and future competencies, skills and knowledge to achieve Development business objectives.

Major Accountabilities:

• Effectively establish, deepen and sustain key relationships with functional stakeholders to understand business needs and related performance gaps, and demonstrate an understanding of processes and methodology in order to provide appropriate learning solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define desired performance outcomes and the required behaviours, skills and knowledge needed by different roles to deliver them.
• Define capability building strategies to optimize individual and team performance to ensure business success, working with the Global Development University (GDU) Learning Project Managers to shape the optimal solutions.
• Partner with functional HR teams to align learning and development activities with the development and implementation of HR plans, programs and tools, to build and enhance organizational capability, as appropriate
• Collaborate with other Heads, Capability Building to align, reuse and optimize talent and learning solutions to support performance improvement within the business unit while aligning with the over-arching strategic goals
• Align learning strategies around identified needs and gaps. Coach business stakeholders around learning strategies while collaborating within GDU to leverage existing and/or develop learning solutions to meet unique business requirements.
• Lead and drive the implementation of a functional /divisional competency-based learning approach with clear definition of core competencies, key knowledge areas, behavioral indicators, and proficiency levels.
• Accountable for all learning solutions within the assigned Function / Competency area, working in partnership with the GDU Learning Project Managers.
• Shape learning demand planning and budget needs for functional area.
• Responsible for function/ division level ‘customer relationship management’ with Development stakeholders
• Responsible for ensuring access for the project team to the appropriate business stakeholders and subject matter experts.
• Responsible for ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction by delivering the best customer experience, quality of products and value to ensure highest recommendations and return business. Directly responsible for driving stakeholder satisfaction for their function/division.
• Demonstrates flexibility in approach to ensure best allocation of people/ skills/ resources across GDU projects.
• Leverages agreed evaluation strategies to measure and report on the effectiveness of training solutions (i.e. Kirkpatrick’s Levels 1-4, KPI and ROI methodology).
• Build and develop strong sustainable relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively with them to achieve common goals and share knowledge and best practice.

Desired profile

Minimum requirements

Education (minimum/desirable):

• Learning and Business related degrees of which one should be to Masters level.
• Project Management qualification.
• Train-the-trainer, e-Learning development and/or instructional design qualification.
• Understanding and application of digital (AI, data science) is essential.

Languages:

Fluent in written and spoken English, other languages an advantage

Professional Experience:

• Ideally from a consulting company with digital transformation experience or companies who have successfully transformed digitally.
• Design thinking experience essential.
• Ideally3+ years Clinical, Pharmaceutical or Medical Device experience with deep understanding of Research and Development functions; or 5+ Years working in a customer facing role, ideally with an agency providing services into the Pharma/ Medical Device industry.
• 7+ Years Knowledge of adult education theory and practice.
• Experience in shaping and managing multiple projects at the same time
• 5+ Years’ experience leading diverse (Cultural, Geographical) project teams with stretch targets and tight timelines within a matrix organisation.
• 5+ Years managing learning project budgets of up to $1m including vendor and contractor management, experience managing project level P&L’s.
