Sakata is a world leader in breeding and producing vegetable and ornamental seed and vegetative cuttings.
To improve the efficiency of Sakata in West African markets, it is essential having a fast and correct positioning of the new varieties. Up to now trials have been done by the respective distributors, with different levels of success. It is basic improving the reliability of screenings. This demands a FTE, responsible of organizing and reporting of the trials of pre-commercial and new commercial varieties, especially in Senegal. A Trail Station will be opened in Senegal in Q2 / Q3 of FDY 15-16.
At the same time, it is important improving our knowledge of local seed markets (potentials per crop & segment, market trends).
A local agronomist would fulfill both functions, once he/she has received the adequate training.
Missions :
- Organize, follow-up and report the internal and external trials agreed with SVE Management.
- Recommend the optimal positioning of the varieties selected in trials.
- Manage the Trial Farm in an efficient and professional way, respecting Sakata and Senegalese rules and procedures.
- Manage expenses according to the Budget agreed with Management.
- When required, collaborate in Open Days / demos organized in the Trial farm.
- Follow-up of trials in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, support to the respective distributors.
- Inform Management of news / developments / trends in the vegetable markets of the countries within his/her area of responsibility.
- Special focus on the Piel de Sapo trials and on the trials organized in GDS and SCL farms. An accurate reporting on the pre-commercial varieties in trial is a high priority.
- Support SVE in eventual claims.
- Gather information on the vegetable seed market for the species defined with Sakata Management as strategic for SVE. Improve the existing database about exporters/shippers in Senegal.
Profile :
- Fluent in Wolof and French. Preferably English.
- 3 or 5 year degree in Agriculture, preferably Horticulture.
- Office software at user level, driving license.
- Autonomy, initiative, self-sufficient, motivation, good interaction with local population.
