Summary of the Role's Main Purpose:

To manage the day to day operations of the Central Transport team based in Daventry. To create operational efficiencies within the department and the wider Sainsbury's Transport network in order to optimise performance and revenue. The role holder will be responsible for the management of their direct reports to ensure delivery of the best possible service to our stores, depots and external customers in line with SLAs. To provide first line management for their direct reports in accordance with company policy.

Principle Accountabilities :

· Lead the team during a shift, supporting and coaching the colleagues and being accountable for problem resolution.
· Allocate workload within the department to ensure SLA's and reports issued to other business areas are delivered on time and to standard.
· Identify areas for improvement and implement streamlined processes to maximise performance and reduce duplication in order to increase operational effectiveness.
· Take ownership to ensure that the daily transport plan is delivered, sourcing transport solutions from depots and 3rd parties to ensure a high standard of service – circa 900 loads per week costing approx £5m per annum.
· Accountable for the delivery of the backhaul plan, ensuring revenue recovery of circa £35m per annum (circa £11-12m business benefit).
· Supervision of accurate and timely completion of weekly and periodic financial reporting to all stakeholders.
· Responsible for day to day people management and development of Central Transport Planning Clerks to build capability.
· Responsible for providing detailed updates and handovers to their senior management team on a daily basis.
· Deputise for C5 Central Transport Operations Manager as required.

Measures of Success:

· Backhaul and depot plans completed by 14:00 daily.
· Financial summary work completed by 14:00 on Tuesday of week 1 and 16:00 on Tuesday for every other week.
· Performance will be rated against targets set out in a personal development plan.
· Feedback received from the Operations Manager and other internal and external colleagues.
· Divisional targets achieved.

· Agree ad-hoc transport rates.
· Recruitment and selection of direct reports.
