Job description
Summary of Job Purpose:
Develop gas turbine engine control models, test rigs and requirements flow-down for gas turbine engine control systems in airborne applications. Participate as a team member of a highly skilled engineering team and have willingness to expand in knowledge and expertise related to the product.
• Ensure that all designs meet customer requirements, considering the engineering budget and schedule objectives.
• Present systems architecture, logic, hardware and software integration, and requirements flow-down at internal and external reviews, audits and customer meetings.
• Contribute to building a world class engineering team recognized and sought after by clients.
• Improve the systems & controls team tools processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead hands-on work to develop and certify Auxiliary Power Unit control systems and software.
• Design control models using Matlab/Simulink, develop control algorithms and perform testing to validate functionality.
• Define and manage product requirements flow-down for airborne engines/systems using DOORs or similar tools.
• Specify control methods and develop automatic test systems used to validate requirements, supporting associated rig and engine testing activities.
• Coordinate with other engineering groups to assure the design performs as specified.
• Support customer activities, specifically rig and flight test.
• Review data to ensure the system is functioning properly.
• Issue detailed technical reports to document results.
• Coordinate with other engineering and company groups to achieve optimization of the control system, based on established constraints.
• Build a strong relationship with clients, partners and parent company technical team in a partnership-focused environment.

Required Competencies; Education / Knowledge / Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering Systems, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience with control system modeling, development, analysis and validation.
• Familiarity with airworthiness rules and aviation standards.
• Knowledge of requirements management tools such as DOORS.
• Understand the operation of aircraft Auxiliary Power Units and related systems.
• Ability to optimize control system designs with multiple constraints. Dynamic and hands-on troubleshooting experience.
• Detailed knowledge of programming, control algorithms, logic, software design and validation tools.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to make good decisions related to gas turbine engine controls.
• Creative and innovative problem solver.
• Good understanding of model-based software development.
• Experience with Matlab/Simulink simulation toolboxes.
