Job Summary
The Stress Engineer is a key member of a cross-disciplinary team driving the design, development and execution of the pilot control, actuation systems and cockpit solutions program for the next generation of military and commercial
aircraft. The Stress Engineer works on the development of new products, and the improvement and sustainment of products. Engineering duties will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and requirements capture through
manufacture and field support
Essential Job Functions
Analyze and determine the structural integrity and safety margins of various mechanical systems, components, and materials.
Use analytical and computational tools to assess the performance and behavior of the system or component when subjected to different loads and environmental conditions.
Conduct stress analysis and finite element analysis of mechanical systems or components.
Design and develop structures, products or equipment that comply with industry standards and regulations, while minimizing risk and optimizing performance and reliability.
Mechanical design, analysis, troubleshooting, and review of components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies.
Ability to manage small projects involving change of product design for improvement or performance, reliability, manufacturability or cost.
Participate in new product development process to support design for manufacturability analysis, critical design reviews and manufacturing readiness.
Review customer specifications and determine compliance to requirements and statement of work and/or note exceptions.
Ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects to achieve the company's strategic and financial goals.
Design new products and modify existing products to support customer, manufacturing, regulatory, industry standard, and market requirements.
Provide technical support, interact and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, quality, testing, program management, suppliers and customers to resolve problems and implement solutions.
Evaluate design changes for impact to product design, cost, and schedule.
Will be an integral member of program Change Control Board's (CCB) to review the preparation of documentation with the end goal of system qualification and product certification.
Participate in new product development process to support design for manufacturability, design for cost, preliminary and critical design reviews.
Identify and analyze potential failure modes and recommend design improvements.
Ensures work complies with company policies and processes.
Support trade studies and proposals.
Other duties may be assigned.

Senior Stress Engineer I
In addition to the above, they will have significant knowledge of products, systems, sub-systems and applicable regulatory requirements for programs of highly complex systems. Will be a specialist in a specific area, and knowledgeable in two or more product lines. Serve as lead for highly complex systems.
Create solutions that can be applied to the product line in its entirety. Perform at an advanced level, provide estimates for standard tasks and discuss technical topics with company executives and customers. May represent the company as an expert at both internal and external program reviews. Will demonstrate the ability to execute all tasks with minimal oversight. Will gain MRB approval and will be able to judiciously use this authority in alignment with company policy. Communicate solutions and ideas with external customers and suppliers; oversee and provide guidance and mentoring. Develop knowledge of market competition and provide input to the business unit market product strategies. Develop technical & product roadmaps and competitive assessments in area of
expertise. Mentor teams on the utilization of internal processes, methods, and tools for systems development and documentation efforts. Utilize and set expectations for the application of internal processes, methods and
tools for hardware development and documentation efforts.
Job Requirements
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited course of study, in aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical, civil engineering,
or a related discipline.
8 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be a self-directed individual requiring minimal supervision.
Understands and is proficient with project management, engineering documentation requirements, and engineering analysis tools.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, policies, and compliance requirements
Knowledge or experience in aerospace, electrical, or mechanical systems.
Understands the safety and environmental implications of architecture decisions required for aerospace applications.
Ability to work closely with internal and external customers at engineering and management levels with minimum supervision.
Experience presenting technical plans or speaking on technical topics to project teams, customers or other groups as required.
Adhere to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture.
Strong knowledge of CAD, PLM Systems, and Computational Based Analytical Software.
Strong knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, policies, and compliance requirements.
Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements, customer specifications and company specifications.
Must have a strong understanding of load paths, stability of structure, and aircraft structural behavior. Must be
fully capable of performing analysis with classical equations and with numerical (Finite Element) analysis methods.
Proficient understanding with some capability in finite element analysis and rigid body analysis utilizing
commercial software.
High level proficiency with static test equipment, fixtures and procedures.
Full knowledge and application of the Stress Engineering Manual.
Strong understanding of material properties, material test methods and processes to obtain material design values including Statistical Methods (CMH17) as it applies to strength basis, material substitution and controlling
material.
Familiar with Advance Product Quality Planning is a plus but not required.
