Summary/Objective:

The Payroll Analyst plays a critical role in delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll while continuously improving payroll processes. This role goes beyond transaction processing and focuses on process evaluation, critical thinking, and innovation. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who is open to change, brings a problem-solving mindset, and actively contributes ideas to improve efficiency, controls, and employee experience.

In addition to end-to-end payroll processing, the Payroll Analyst will partner with team leads and management to review current workflows, identify gaps or risks, and recommend scalable process improvement plans. This role also supports training and knowledge-sharing to help grow the team's collective expertise.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing & Compliance-

• Process accurate and timely multi-state payrolls (weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly) in compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.

• Analyze, review, prepare, and input payroll data using ADP (Vantage or comparable platform).

• Manage out-of-sequence payrolls, reversals, reissues, and manual checks as needed.

• Assist with employee garnishments, including child support, levies, and wage garnishments.

• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, stale checks, and payroll adjustments.

• Conduct initial troubleshooting and issue resolution prior to escalation to ADP.

Process Review & Continuous Improvement-

• Review existing payroll processes, controls, and workflows to identify inefficiencies, risks, or opportunities for improvement.

• Develop and present process improvement recommendations to team leads and management.

• Support implementation of approved process changes and document updated procedures.

Analysis, Reporting & Cross-Functional Support-

• Support payroll metrics and reporting using compiled data and ADP reports.

• Partner with HR, Finance, and business sites to provide payroll insights and guidance.

• Support departmental projects, including system enhancements and M&A activities.

Training, Collaboration & Team Support-

• Share knowledge, coach peers, and support team development through collaboration.

• Act as a trusted payroll point of contact for assigned departments or business units.

• Demonstrate strong customer service while balancing accuracy, compliance, and deadlines.

Job Requirements:

Required:

• 3–5 years of payroll experience using an automated payroll system (ADP experience strongly preferred).

• Multi-state payroll processing experience.

• Strong understanding of payroll compliance, garnishments, and payroll taxes.

• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven team player with a collaborative, customer-focused mindset.

Preferred:

• Experience supporting payroll-related projects or system implementations.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, APA payroll certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
