Job description

Summary of Job Purpose:

- Conceive new designs and research state of the art electromechanical designs for aerospace cockpit applications, such as pilot controls, display systems and avionics switches.
- Continuous improvement of existing, released products to meet specific customer requirements; these activities will include analysis to assure compliance to customer specifications and industry requirements.
- Preparation of documentation required to define these products, verify compliance to customer requirements, and fulfill Sagem's product development process.
- Support engineering management in making business decisions, help develop program time/schedule estimates and budgets and participate in bid and proposal efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Responsible for complete designs from concept to qualification. Create prototype and conduct engineering development testing to support analysis and assure compliance to established requirements.
- Produce engineering models and drawings to support design efforts.
- Review customer specifications and determine compliance to requirements and/or note exceptions. Review project-related documentation to ensure its accuracy.
- Create new products through improvements of existing products to support customer, using applicable industry standards and regulatory
- Conduct engineering analysis and prepare documentation required to fulfill Sagem's requirements. Analyze designs through the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Verify computer-generated results with conventional calculations.
- Work with customers, suppliers, project managers and other engineering disciplines to optimize designs and identify cost trade-offs.
- Prepare for and participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs) and Critical Design Reviews (CDRs) to ensure product meets design criteria.
- Verify completed drawings, reports, ECOs and BOMs for clarity, completeness and conformity to standards, procedures and specifications.
- Work with manufacturing engineering on concurrent engineering designs to meet manufacturability and cost goals using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) techniques.
- Work with Configuration and Data Management (CDM) through the document release process using Sagem's Product Data Management (PDM) system, Enovia.
- Participate in design verification, qualification and acceptance testing, and help drive solutions for failures encountered.
- Coordinate with Sales, Marketing and customers to determine design requirements for future and existing products.
- Initiate and promote generation of new ideas and document them for possible future patent application and protection.

- Must have the ability to communicate technical information, whether written or verbal, to other functional departments throughout the organization. Includes creation and participation of group presentations.
- Ability to demonstrate analytical problem solving
- Strong project management and organization skills
- Timeliness of estimates and reports for engineering projects
- Must be able to work on multiple concurrent projects
- Master's Degree in Engineering preferred
- Aerospace experience preferred
- CATIA v5 experience highly preferred – experience in SolidWorks and/or Pro-Engineer a plus
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred
- Knowledge of Enovia or other Product Data Management (PDM) system for documentation control and workflow preferred
- Working knowledge of DFSS, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE) preferred
- Experience with ANSYS or other FEA tool preferred
- Experience with DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 preferred

Candidate skills & requirements

Education / Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 1 year of mechanical engineering experience utilizing 3D CAD
- Experience in solid modeling
- Legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
