Job Description

Objective:

Manages and responsible for the overall function and performance of the simulation and testing teams. Responsible for work load-capacity analysis, resource management, on time completion of all tasks with appropriate quality, and continued performance improvements. This position works independently to manage employees and workload in the test lab and FEA simulation group.

Main Function Responsibilities:

A) Schedules simulation & testing workload in accordance with program milestone and EDR schedules, provides status and schedule updates to department head and other appropriate entities on a regular basis.

B) Lead the simulation and testing teams to ensure on time completion of tasks with proper quality within allocated budget.

C) Provide employees the resources, guidance, leadership, and training necessary to successfully perform their job and accomplish goals and foster a collaborative, team environment.

D) Responsible for personnel actions including hiring, performance management (ie: annual performance evaluations, coaching, and counseling) and terminations.

E) Provides technical direction as necessary.

F) Ensures health and safety compliance within the department and work areas.

G) Ensures proper compliance with regulatory, airframer requirements and company policies & procedures.

H) Ensures continued improvements of simulation and test laboratory.

I) Responsible for quality of all simulation tasks and test data.

J) Defines and maintains standardization of processes in test lab and simulation.

K) Coordinates and ensures proper communication with regulatory bodies to be in compliance, if required.

L) Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Skills:

• Working knowledge of aerospace industry standard stress analysis methods such as hand calculations, linear/non-linear implicit FE analysis, multi-body dynamic analysis and non-linear explicit FE analysis methods.

• Ability to directly or indirectly provide technical support to the program specific stress teams to:

• Ensure that the risk of a certification test failure is managed effectively and minimized with the use of appropriate analytical methods and judgement.

• Review and approve hand calculations, linear static, non-linear, crash, multi-body dynamic and optimization FE models for seating products to support the design and certification process, plus the in-service life of the product.

• Review and approve stress and structural documentation to submit for internal/external customers and regulatory approval.

• Review and approve drawings, designs, concessions and repairs with respect to stress.

• Support the Design team in ensuring that products meet cost and weight targets.

• Working knowledge of industry standard dynamic, static and cyclic test methods.

Complementary Description

• Ability to support the specification, procurement, maintenance and modifications to the dynamic, static and cyclic test rigs, ancillaries and instrumentation to ensure all tests meet the pre-defined requirements.

• Ability to provide technical support to the Test Engineers/Technicians to:

• Conduct and document structural tests on aircraft seating products to demonstrate compliance to requirements.

• Review and interpret dynamic, static and cyclic test plans provided by certification engineers.

• Design and construct suitable test set-ups to carry out tests detailed therein.

• Design cyclic test apparatus to automate the repeated function of complex manual and powered systems through the use of programming, actuators, sensors and switches.

• Discuss and agree test set-ups / deviations with visiting test authorities and witnesses.

• Record and process test data using the appropriate instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

• Ability to ensure alignment of the physical test set up and the virtual representation with the required levels of data acquisition.

• Must have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment.

• Ability to read and review written communication.

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

A. Education & Qualification:

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related Engineering field or 12 years equivalent related experience in lieu of degree.

B. Work Experience - Technical knowledge:

• 4 years simulation or stress engineering experience in the industry required.

• Leadership experience managing subordinates is preferred.

C. Desirable Aspects

• Experience with Aircraft seat certification

• Experience working in Carsh safety test lab

• Experience with Finite element analysis

• Experience working directly with FAA or EASA

Specificity of the job

International and/or Domestic travel required; more than 1 week per Year.
