Job description

My client is a national law firm offering a unique collection of specialisms across the commercial, public, health and insurance sectors, with a number of offices across the UK. They have long-standing relationships with an impressive range of clients and aim to truly understand their needs to deliver an exceptional service which exceeds their expectations and makes their life easier. Due to further demand, my client is looking appoint a Solicitor to work in their Commercial Litigation and business recovery team, which itself is part of the Business and Professional Risk department of the firm. The team works for numerous well-known local, national and international businesses in addition to leading national and foreign Insolvency Practitioners.

This role requires the successful candidate to have a good working relationship with others in the team and lawyers in other areas of the firm. As a guideline this role would suit applicants with circa 4 plus years PQE to assist with the conduct of a range of commercial litigation and recovery actions, who is able to conduct their own supervised caseload.

Required Skills & Experience/ Responsibilities:
• Must have circa 4+ years PQE
• This candidate will be expected to take on responsibility from the outset but will form an integral part of the team with the necessary supervision, training and support to maximise their potential.
• Advising commercial clients on a range of contractual and tortuous disputes, including insurance disputes, ranging from sale of goods claims to enforcement of restrictive covenants
• Conducting High Court and County Court proceedings on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants
• Advocacy - generally in Chambers
• Familiarity with the Civil Procedure Rules including the effective use of interim procedures including Injunctions
• Experience of drafting pleadings and Instructions to Counsel, witness statements, letters of advice and preparation for trial
• Contributing towards marketing efforts and other non-chargeable projects of the department, including assisting in the preparation of and /or speaking at seminars, drafting training programmes, keeping precedents up-to date and contributing to client bulletins
• Solicitors are expected to record 6.5 chargeable hours per day.

About You:
• Strong academic background, with 2:1 degree or equivalent
• You have a tactical approach of prioritising your workload
• You will also be required to undertake mandatory compliance training as required
• An enquiring mind and a willingness to accept new challenges; you will be expected to keep up-to- date with legal developments
• Must possess the ability to conduct own caseload and work alongside other members of the team/firm
• Commercial awareness and able to manage own time effectively
• The ability to provide and communicate practical, commercial advice in a straightforward manner and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues
• The ability to assimilate facts quickly and work towards tight timescales
• A willingness to attend marketing and social events organised by the firm or its clients or professional organisations
• Attention to detail tempered by a common-sense approach
• You will be expected to be familiar and compliant with the full range of regulatory policies and procedures including: equal opportunity and diversity, data protection and confidentiality/security, anti-bribery and anti-money laundering etc.
• The ability to generate and follow through on ideas for improving service to clients.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and experience of relevant case management systems
• Familiarity with on-line and library research facilities
• Attention to detail with the ability to explain/advise clients on complex technical aspects of process and procedure.

Salary range (DOE): £40,000- £70,000

Working Hours: Monday- Friday (9am-5pm)
