Web Designer/PHP Developer - NGO+Startup

  • Internship
  • Wymeswold (Leicestershire)

Job description

We are a small digital marketing agency that are working on several projects including commercial ventures and NGO projects. This is a great opportunity to put your name to at least two credible organsations which have very different business models, goals and operations.
Retreatments.com - a commercial start-up venture currently in the launch phase
Wildlife1.org - a wildlife NGO for the preservation and conservation of animals.

Some of the commercial projects we work with are start-up ventures and therefore require a hands on approach to getting things done. This brings a degree of freedom coupled with responsibility as you would be expected to deliver using your own initiative to arrive at a solution.

All in all the role would suit someone who is craving the opportunity to prove themselves in terms of skills and dedication - if you know you have the ability but you haven’t been able to find the proving ground then this could be your first genuine opportunity. If your chosen to work with us and things work out well then you’ll get to put your name proudly against the projects you’ve worked on and we would be more than happy in providing you with a reference to assist you with taking the next step when you’re ready to move onwards.

Naturally we would expect you to hit the ground running. If you're looking for hand holding then this isn’t the right opportunity for you. We are looking for an individual who is a creative problem solver. In the first 3 months we are offering this as a full time unpaid internship which we will look to review and move over to a paid placement once you’ve demonstrated yourself as being invaluable to the team who we'd be foolish to let go! (we are serious)

In short this opportunity would suit you if:
+ Your looking to gain real work experience in start-up environment working on a varied range of web projects
+ You are target driven and able to meet deadlines
+ You want the chance to be involved in a variety of tasks that will help develop and demonstrate your ability as a competent web programmer
+ Your keen to work in a start-up environment
+ Your happy to work remotely and understand that you will be expected to plan and record your workloads
+ Your looking for credible reference after working on interesting projects
+ You want the flexibility to manage your own time and schedule

To explain some of the benefits of working with us:
+ You will be able to leverage our website and brand in respect to finding other positions and we can provide a reference when required
+ We specialise in online marketing and therefore if this is an area of interest then you can learn from our techniques and methods as you work
+ We will offer direction and training where possible (although this will be limited for programming related tasks)

Desired profile

We are looking for people who have some level of experience and are therefore very much interested in looking at your portfolio of work and experience. The more examples the better even if they aren't 100% related to the role and the job at hand. We want to see how you work and what you've produced.

Can you honestly and confidently answer yes to the following questions:
+ Are you looking for a full time internship?
+ Do you have experience and/or qualifications with other Php/Wordpress website?
+ Can you provide us with a portfolio of your work?
+ Are you able to learn and work autonomously on mini projects?
+ Are you able to teach yourself new skills using online resources and without one on one guidance?
+ Do you have a can do attitude? You won’t give up on a problem until you arrive at solution?
+ Do you have great attention detail?

Requirements:
+ A copy of your CV (LinkedIn URL is fine)
+ A link to your Github account if you have one
+ Send links to examples of your work
+ One paragraph on why you want to work with us
+ One paragraph on what it is about your background or situation that makes you right for this role

If you are chosen for interview we would require you to undertake a timed exercise to demonstrate your skills.

Required hours per week
Minimum: 20 hours
Ideally: 35 hours

Demonstrable experience of developing websites using:
+ HTML
+ CSS
+ Javascript
+ Wordpress
+ php
+ any other useful or relevant skills (e.g. MySQL, other programming languages, Photoshop, etc)

You may ask why is this position unpaid and at this present time we can honestly say that we just don’t have the budget - we hope to begin generating an income form our projects in the next 3 months and hence why we say its an unpaid internship to begin with. Should everything work as we hope then we can look to move on to a paid arrangement as we need good people to grow and would certainly look to hang onto those who proved themselves during the early days.

Make every future a success.
