Job description

You will be the Associate Editor on The Red Bulletin UK edition, providing ideas, content and magazine-making prowess in support of the UK Editor and the international editorial team from the London office. You will be sourcing, organising and writing stories for The Red Bulletin UK edition, The Red Bulletin website and other editions of The Red Bulletin globally. The Red Bulletin is an active lifestyle magazine published by Red Bull Media House, with a focus on action sports, culture, music, social issues and more. You will be equally adept at writing a 2,000-word feature and a five-word caption. You will know how to conduct interviews, call in products, reshape tired copy and generate killer ideas. You will also be called upon to commission and edit. Your experience of an editorial office environment will ensure that you can take your place in full support of the Editor, as well as taking care of your own responsibilities. This role is being offered as Maternity cover for 12 months

Working with colleagues on the Art, Photo and Subs desks, in the London office and also The Red Bulletin editorial offices in Vienna, Los Angeles and other worldwide locations.

 

Cultivate relationships with colleagues in London and internationally, and with external contributors.

Delivering The Red Bulletin’s editorial and commercial needs.

 

Understanding of current and future trends in The Red Bulletin’s subject fields.

 

Understanding the magazine market in the UK – print and online.

Some commissioning and editing.

 

Supporting the UK Editor at all times.

Your experience includes:

(proven performance in)

· 
Substantial experience of generating ideas and copy for magazines and/or websites, from captions and headlines to interviews and profiles, in a wide range of subjects.

· 
Strong experience and complete understanding of the editorial process, working with editors, designers, photodesks, sub-editors and all types of editorial staff.

· 
A track record of success in media, with a proven ability to tell compelling stories.

· 
Must be able to work within a cross-functional team environment.

· 
An innovative mind that connects the needs of a publisher/content creation business with those of its readers and consumers. This has to be demonstrated.

· 
Excellent organisational, interpersonal and influential communication skills.

· 
Excellent knowledge and understanding of the UK consumer publishing market, print and online.

· 
Strong knowledge of and passion for action sports, music and culture content.

· 
German language skills an advantage.   

· 

At least two years as a writer or editor for a professional media organisation. Undergraduate degree. NCTJ qualification preferred

· 

Fluent in English German speaker desriable
