Custodian Oversight & Governance Analyst
Graduate job Edinburgh (City of Edinburgh) Sales
Job description
The Business
This is a chance to join a new team within our Fund Services business at Analyst level, and to gain valuable exposure to third party custodians and to our clients.
Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) is our wholesale banking business, serving large corporate clients, financial institutions, governments and their agencies. We meet clients' needs by helping them raise, protect, and move money – activities which support all the economies where we operate, particularly in the UK.
Trustee & Depositary Services (TDS) is the market-leading independent trustee and depositary to the UK collective investment scheme (CIS) industry. We have provided trustee or depositary services for nearly 80 years, and serve approximately 42% of the UK CIS market.
What you'll do
Custodian Oversight & Governance (CO&G) is a newly formed team in the Funds Services business of TDS. The AFIMD Directive and CASS regulation set out a requirement to apply governance to the custodian our clients use, and we plan to achieve this by building close working relationships with the custodians, making sure that day-to-day interactions are smooth and that are robust and efficient.
As an Analyst on the CO&G team, you'll play an important part in reviewing and documenting all processes, identifying risks, and putting in place effective controls which remove them from our day-to-day processes and interactions with custodians. Implementation of controls, robust reporting, and appropriate and timely escalation will all be key.
Relationship building and understanding risk and control are key requirements to the team's success, and you'll need to understand regulator changes and the impact they have on our clients, Fund Services, and on the custodians.
You'll have the opportunity to take on and contribute to projects, including streamlining the account opening process and setting up a central client account database, and will build close relationships with Legal teams to make sure legal agreements are monitored and turned around without impacting the client trading strategy. You'll also be expected to build your market knowledge, making sure that key stakeholders and clients are kept up to date with market changes.
What you'll bring
You'll need good experience of the international financial services industry, preferably in a custodian oversight, account management, international securities or fund services environment. Experience of managing supplier relationships and of working in risk and control would both be welcome, and could prove an advantage. A working knowledge of securities and cash settlement processes, custody operations, FX and derivatives would also be valuable but not necessarily essential, although you should have experience of dealing with CASS and AIFMD regulations.
You'll need excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate at all levels. You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to develop relevant, reliable and robust MI tailored for different audiences, and bring strong MS Office skills.
How we'll reward you
In return, we offer a competitive salary plus 15% cash and benefit funding programme that can be tailored to suit your individual needs. In addition, we provide a wide selection of exclusive lifestyle offers, development and learning programmes, services and support designed to help you manage and balance your work/life priorities. At RBS, we want everyone to feel welcome. That's why we want you to know that we'll work with you to make the application process as smooth as possible. So please just let us know if you need any adjustments or support – we'll do whatever we can to help.
If we offer you a job, we'll discuss with you how we can help set you up for success, including by making adjustments to your working environment if required.
