Assistant Buyer - Kidswear (womenswear experience also considered)

Purpose of role : To support the buyer in selecting and buying merchandise for delivery according to a critical path while maximising sales and profitability
Reports to: Buyer

Job Function Competencies:

Sales and Commercial Focus – Maximising sales, opportunities and performance
·  Contribute to (or develop and source where applicable) the selection of products which will achieve company margin and profit targets each season and financial year
·  Continually assess product range with key competitors to compare price, quality and value Financial Range Planning / WSSI (Weekly Sales and Stock Information)
·  Achieve stock turn targets to maximise overall contribution
·  Take appropriate action in-season with repeat orders, cancellations and rescheduling of orders to maximise profitability
·  Monitor, report and react to product sales performance
·  Ensure prompt delivery of merchandise and correct phasing of intake to meet sales
·  Assist the buyer in the preparation of mark down proposals in line with company policy and monitor this stock with a view to selling through
·  Continually monitor the critical path
·  Range – Identify and develop key styling, colour palette and range content
·  Responsible for interpreting fashion trends and translating them into commercial products
·  Use of trade fairs, WGSN, magazines and other fashion publications to identify up and coming trends relevant to the market and season
·  On- going competition shopping to source new ideas and monitor competitor ranges
·  Gain an understanding of Primark’s customer base and develop new products appropriate to the Primark Market
·  In conjunction with the buyer, manage graded range development
·  Prepare for and present regular range reviews and presentations to the Buyer
·  Develop and Source Products – Look worldwide via existing suppliers and new suppliers to ensure a quality product
·  Maintain and manage relationships with suppliers
·  Support negotiations and work with the supply base to ensure best price and margin for the product
·  Review supplier performance on delivery of product in accordance with specifications to ensure a quality product, on time and at the best price
·  Consider freight costs and the availability of General Systems of Preference
·  Recommend ideal quantities to be procured on key lines of merchandise  
Samples and Specifications- Establish relevant garment specifications and maintain high quality standards

·  Deal with payment and shipping queries or returns
·  Work alongside SGS independent inspection services worldwide
·  Work closely with the Buyer preparing samples for range sign off meetings  
People – Leading and motivating staff to do their jobs to the best of their ability
·  Optimise staff morale and promote a positive work environment whilst ensuring staff are fully conversant with their tasks
·  Monitor development and achievement of goals for reporting staff providing coaching and feedback reviews to improve work performance
·  Develop own capability by using Buying resources and development plans  
Operating Standards – Consistently deliver against company expectations and policy
·  Manage the placement of orders, ‘open to buy’ and weekly stock and sales information according to company policy for the section
·  Adhere to Option Management guidelines within sections and subsections
·  Ensure that International Standards of production and quality are adhered to
·  Ensure that suppliers comply with the Primark Code of Practice on the Procurement of Merchandise  
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
·  Established experience operating at an Assistant Buyer level ideally with Kidswear experience. 
·  Proven ability to negotiate
