Job description
Responsible for assisting in the preparation, distribution, and accounting of employee payroll.
Serves as a liaison to employees and third party payroll vendors to ensure payroll processing accurately reflects company specific pay policies. Audits employee pay records and reconciles totals by departmental cost center, location, etc. Participates in payroll system upgrades and implementations. Works directly with employees to resolve outstanding payroll inquiries. Ensures FLSA status is correctly captured in the system per employee. Interprets pay policies, e.g. vacation, LOA, disability, workers compensation, governmental regulations, withholding exemptions, etc. and ensures amounts/deductions are calculated and applied to various accounts correctly. Ensures company compliance with federal and state payroll standards. In house payroll expert, staying current with changes in the law. May assist with audits such as internal, state, federal, etc. for correctly classifying and paying employees. May prepare tax reports and related documentation. Documents payroll processes and procedures. May train other payroll staff. May be back up to those who perform specialized tasks or activities.
Duties and tasks are standard with some variation. Completes own role largely independently within defined policies and procedures.

Overview:

· Audits employee pay records and reconciles totals by departmental cost center, location, etc.
· Participates in payroll system upgrades and implementations.
· Works directly with employees to resolve outstanding payroll inquiries.
· Ensures FLSA status is correctly captured in the system per employee.
· Ensures company compliance with federal, state and local standards.
· May assist with audits such as internal, state, federal, etc. for correctly classifying and taxation of employees. Documents payroll processes and procedures.
· Audit federal, state and local tax returns prepared by vendor.
· Auditing the quarterly and annual returns for Federal, State and local taxes, W2 and W2C processing.
· Load import files received from HR and other sources.
· Work with State and Local agencies on reconciliation of tax notices.
· Track unemployment rates to ensure system is calculating properly.
· Prepare tax adjustments in Oracle Payroll and ADP.
· Audit tax updates implemented into Oracle Payroll via Vertex. Requirements:
· Knowledge of payroll tax regulations in the US for all Federal, State and Local requirements.
· High level of problem solving skills required. Solves problems that require judgement such as setting priorities, evaluating results and coordinating with others.
· Completes own role largely independently within defined policies and procedures.
· Remain current on legislative and regulatory rulings impacting payroll. Desired skill set:
· 3 -5 years of solid payroll experience in a medium to large company
· Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word; computer savvy
· Good communication skills; Good writing skills
· Ability to plan, organize and prioritize with close attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
· Ability to perform in a cross functional environment
· Ability to achieve measurable outcomes with good problem resolution skills
· Bachelors preferred
· Oracle Payroll/HR Applications and ADP is a plus
