Health Physics Supervisor
Location: Cumbria
Work Arrangement: Full time on site.
The Health Physics Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring that Health Physics resources are deployed effectively to meet customer needs in a safe, compliant, and efficient manner. This position involves leading a team of Health Physics Surveyors, maintaining high standards of service delivery, and fostering a culture of safety and professionalism. The Supervisor acts as a key liaison between operational teams, customers, and stakeholders, ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with current legislation, site procedures, and customer expectations. The role also supports staff development, operational planning, and continuous improvement across Health Physics activities.

Key Accountabilities
- Supervision and coordination of HP teams.
- Client and Stakeholder liaison
- Radiological monitoring, supervision, and assurance.
- Training and mentoring.
- Compliance & upholding standards.
- Safety and Leadership.
- Resource, equipment and RPI management.
- Clear communication and reporting.
- Allocation and prioritisation of work in line with operational demands.
- Quality assurance and peer checking of radiological survey data and reports.
- Coordination with the Radiological Protection Adviser (RPA), Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS), Package Manager, and safety teams.
- Promoting safe systems of work and reinforcing ALARP principles.
- Support in incident response, investigations, and emergency arrangements

Occupational Skills and qualifications
Essential
- City & Guilds Radiation Safety Practice Stage 1 and 2 or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection
- Time served in managerial positions
- Must have a sound basic education backed up by good communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Health Physics and regulations
- Basic computer skills
- 3years in a operational Health Physics managerial position.
Desirable
- City & Guilds Radiation Safety Practice Stage 2
- NVQ Level 3 Radiation Protection
- Sellafield site experience
Duties and Requirements
- Responsible for ensuring Surveyors carry out their duties according to Health Physics instructions and local rules etc.
- Resource management, deployment, supervision, training. Liaising with operational teams to plan radiological support for upcoming tasks.
- Ensure staff are SQEP, and staff have the appropriate training for the task.
- Acting as a customer and NUVIA liaison.
- Responsible for ensuring that contract obligations are met to avoid non-compliance.
- Review and validate survey results, escalating anomalies or hazards to the RPA/RPS/Package Manager.
- Assist in the control of resources by monitoring time bookings on timesheets.
- Matching a set workforce to projects and buildings as appropriate. Authorising overtime and leave, rescheduling routine work to ensure client demand is met.
- Motivation of personnel within the operational monitoring team
Liaising with customers, Project Managers and RPA’s and key stakeholders to agree performance milestones and deliver operational standards. - Lead, supervise, and mentor Health Physics Surveyors and HP Trainee on project teams.
- On going review of staff deployment, development, performance and welfare.
- Support the preparation of radiological risk assessments, method statements, and work permits where required.
- Ensure working practices meet the requirements of current legislation, procedures, customer requirements and are underpinned by the appropriate documentation.
- Maintaining ALARP, safety and compliance of the project areas and team.
- Take part and lead radiological incidents or emergency exercises where required.
- Promote continuous improvement and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
