Job description

Lawyer, Regulatory Legal Team
Permanent and fixed term contracts
Salary £51,787 per annum plus benefits

About us
The Nursing and Midwifery Council exists to protect the public. We do this by ensuring that only those who meet our requirements are allowed to practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK. We take action if concerns are raised about whether a nurse or midwife is fit to practise.

About the role
Our lawyers review and prepare fitness to practise cases as well as conduct advocacy in substantive and non-substantive hearings before our practice committees. For advocates with higher rights (which are desirable but not essential) there is the opportunity to appear in proceedings before the High Court. Lawyers are also required to conduct litigation, where permitted to do so by their regulatory body.

About you
Good advocacy skills are essential. Experience of regulatory law (particularly healthcare regulation) will be an advantage. These posts are based in our London office, but lawyers are expected to travel within the UK to attend hearings as required.
